He studied ayurveda in Mysore and in 1898 started the Ayurvedasramam to popularize ayurvedic medicine. Ayurvedic medicine is a system of Hindu traditional medicine. The oldest known Ayurvedic texts are the Susrutha Samhita and the Charaka Samhita.
