For training use only.Further Information:The concept of the MAST was first described in 1903 by famed surgeon George W. Crile as a ‘pneumatic rubbersuit” to decrease postural hypotension in neurosurgical patients. During WWII, Crile’s suit was used to preventblackouts in pilots who were subjected to high G forces while flying combat aircraft. NASA claimed responsibility fordeveloping the medical anti-shock trousers at their Ames Research Center in the 1960’s. MAST were introduced intomedical practice during the war in Vietnam and called “Military Anti-Shock Trousers.” Paramedics in the 1970’s and1980’s often used Medical Anti-Shock Trousers (MAST) for all forms of trauma. It was the standard of care, although

there was little research on how the pants worked scientifically. Originally believed to keep patients from becominghypertensive and die. Later researchers studied the effects and effectiveness of the MAST and found that the actualbenefits were far less than originally thought. After extensive research it was concluded that there was no evidence tosuggest that MAST reduces mortality, length of hospitalization or length of ICU stay in trauma patients. central fuze well on the top of the mine is normally fitted with a pronged M605 Pressure and tilt fuze. Sufficient pressure on theprongs or tension on an attached tripwire causes the release of a striker. The freed striker is forced into a percussion cap whichignites a short pyrotechnic delay. The purpose of this delay is to allow the victim to move off the top of the mine, to prevent itsupward movement from being blocked. Once the delay has burned through, a black powder charge is ignited, which launches theinner iron body of the mine up into the air. The mine raises to a height of approximately one meter before one or both of thepyrotechnic delays triggers the main charge of the mine which sprays metal fragments in a 360 degree spread.
