I am giving 5 stars because it looks like a well made mower. We got snow early this year so we were not able to try the mower out. We decided not to put the oil in until spring when we can use it. We are very happy it has the option to mulch and bag or not bag grass.

Well built mower

My mower was delivered yesterday. Everything seems good. I had no problems putting together (which was just a few screws, oil and gas) and all parts were good. No bent back wheel rod as others have said. Checked it over well and made sure that the blade was tight and she cranked right up. I mowed about 45 minutes, I had no problems. It has side shoot, bag or mulch, which I used them all. It cuts well, nice and uniformed. It is a good mower for the price, the only thing I don't like is the  front wheel self propel is not very strong. You need to push it up hills and keep a steady forward motion on flat land. My last mower was AWD and it had a self propeller you could jog behind if you wanted. Again, this is to be expected for front wheel self propel and for the price is a nice mower. The seller delivered quickly and I received a quality mower.

The connecting device for the handle to the mower deck is plastic and feels a bit weak when lifting or pushing down on the handle. The highest wheel setting is just barely high enough for my Zoysia lawn. Wouldn't mind it being just a little higher for summer cutting.  But it's going to do the job.

Maybe should have paid more to get better quality.

Another lawnmower that had a bent rear height adjustment lever rubbing on the rear wheel.  This requires the rear axle to be replaced before the mower can be used.  The shipping box was not damaged.  However it was not factory sealed and had been opened.  Also the sealed plastic accessories bag inside the box had been opened.  It appears that this may have been a mower that had  been returned to the vendor due to the defect and then sold to me.  The engine and operators manuals were loose in the box.  I now have to take the the mower to a Troy-Bilt authorized service center that is 30 miles away to get a warranty repair.    I contacted the vendor, Joe's Factory Outlet thru the Walmart web site.  The vendor's response was rapid and courteous. They offered to do all they could to help me get a replacement part.  However, I had already contacted Troy-Bilt directly and was told to take it to one of their repair centers.   

On the Troy- Built factory site, several people have posted reviews and photos of this exact defect.   However, there is no excuse for a Walmart  vendor to ship an opened box, defective lawnmower, to a customer and there is no excuse for Troy-Built to send defective products to Vendors or customers.  I now know that I cannot trust all Walmart vendors and need to check vendor reviews before buying anything from Walmart.  I also learned that Troy-Built quality control is lacking and it is high risk to by something from them.  Photos are of the defective rear axle that has been removed from the mower.

The handle wasn't attached when it arrived, it was folded down for shipping. The holes predrilled to secure the handle are too close to the big rear wheels to securely attach with the wing bolts they provide. The wing nuts scrape the wheels.

The mower that was delivered was used.  It was not in the original box .  The box it was in was poorly taped and had gas/oil leaked all over it.  The mower was in a large black garbage bag.  The bagger and a other part of the mower was outside the  black garbage bag and had the leaked gas/oil on it.  This was a Christmas present for my son-in-law.  Very disappointed and expecting to have the used mower picked up and a full refund given or  the used mower replaced with a NEW  one.

I have the exact same issue as the previous reviewer. The rear axle height adjustment arm is bent and rubbing on the rear wheel. The three lowest cutting levels can't be locked into at all. I'm extremely disappointed, I don't how this could have possibly passed the most basic QA inspection. The nose coming from the adjustment arm rubbing is annoying and the friction all but cancels out the self propelled feature.

This lawn mower came from a third party and refurbished. We missed all of this in the fine print. Our fault so recommending ALWAYS read the details. It was junk. Came with screws missing had to go and and buy them. Shouldve returned it at that point but assembled it anyway and the self propelled didnt work. It was a hassle to return it but after two weeks and hours on the phone with multiple supervisors finally got a refund from Walmart not the third party. Companies should be careful when selling this way and buyers always beware.  This lawn mower is generally pretty good. Just not when poorly refurbished.

The lawn mower, collection bag, parts, handle bar, documents and the packaging box - all arrived soaked in engine oil that appear to be leaking from the side or the bottom of the mower - The mower and everything else was put in a flimsy corrugated box without any individual wrappings, packaging foam or restraints. The gas tank still has some gas in it.  The real wheel raising lever is visibly jammed into the wheel and the drive wire is pinched between the wheel and the lever - all in all it is a type of mess I have never seen before.

Please be aware

I have had a terrible experience, first with UPS, then Walmart.  I stayed home 3 days to get the delivery, every day UPS would let me know the package would be delivered that day, that went on and on, finally the delivery came the box was completely torn up and re-taped several times.  Then Walmart would not assist me when I wanted to return the lawnmower, I will NEVER purchase anything else from Walmart. I simply dislike your company and your employees.  My not to future shoppers is  DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM WALMART ON LINE, EVER.
