AS per the call given by All India Bank Employees Association, (AIBEA), Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) has announced its support to the strike. Through a press release issued here by Devidas Tuljapurkar, General Secretary of Maharashtra State Bank Employees Federation, (MSBEF) said that five lakh bank employees will be participating in the strike on October 22 against the merger of associate bank with State Bank of India and Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda.

The association is also opposing the process of closure of 3,000 bank branches and if the merger takes place may be another 2,000 branches will be closed. “On one hand the Government is closing small banks, while at the same time small finance banks and private sector are being issued licenses and in the process banking business is being privatised,” Tuljapurkar said. He added that common man is scared of the uncertainty in the banking sector.

“It will impact the entre banking sector in a big way and create panic among the common man,” he said. Government is merging the banks to serve the interest of big businesmen who have looted the banks in the form of NPA’s, write off. Government instead of recovering those dues is granting concessions to those corporates. And hence the bank employees are going on strike in favour of common man. On October 22 almost all employees from all public sector banks will observe the strike. Employees from the state of Maharashtra will organise demonstrations, dharna, conventions, morcha to highlight their demands. The employees will gather at Azhad Maidan in Mumbai.
