Kansas City Chiefs injury update ahead of Miami Dolphins clash with Patrick Mahomes facing wide receiver crisis

Fans at a freezing cold Arrowhead Stadium may have a couple fewer star wideouts to watch on Saturday

THE Kansas City Chiefs could be down a few key players for their upcoming playoff opener.

The reigning Super Bowl champions are set to host the Miami Dolphins on Saturday in the third Wild Card game of the day.

Patrick Mahomes' wide receiver corps may be set to take a hit.

Both Kadarius Toney and Justyn Ross were listed as questionable on Thursday after being limited participants in training.

Toney is currently dealing with hip and ankle issues, while Ross is managing a hamstring issue.

This would come as a blow for an offense that is already missing wideout Skyy Moore and tight end Jody Fortson on injured reserve.

Thankfully, rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice, who had missed their Week 18 game with an injury, was a full participant all week along with Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Elsewhere, offensive tackle Wanya Morris has been ruled out with a concussion.

None of this is ideal for an offense that has struggled to find its rhythm this season.

The Chiefs lead the NFL in dropped passes with 44, rank ninth in yards (5,972), and 15th in points scored (371).

Kansas City also didn't have a single receiver hit 1,000 yards this season - including star tight end Travis Kelce whose seven-year streak in this category has now come to an end.

As for Mahomes, his 4,183 passing yards and 27 touchdowns are both his second-fewest for a single season since taking over as their starter.

His fourteen interceptions were a career-high.

If there was ever an ideal time to take on the Dolphins, however, it is arguably now.

Miami has lost their last two games, failing to score 20 or more points in either game.

In theory, the inclement weather forecast for Arrowhead Stadium could also benefit the hosts.

The game has the potential to be one of the coldest in playoff history, with the National Weather Service forecasting that come kickoff at 8 pm ET it could be as low as 0 degrees, with a wind chill of -21.

This would mark one of the coldest games in Dolphins history if accurate.
