First shown at the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 8 Series was launched to challenge the likes of the Mercedes C126 and its successor, the C140. The design was elegant, yet imposing with its pillarless and frameless windows, and the car offered a wealth of innovations including an impressive 0.29 drag coefficient.This 1997 example is in excellent condition and has only completed 81,000 miles from new. The vendor purchased the car in 2003 and has used it sparingly ever since. The engine bay is showroom qualitySupplied with its full leather book pack, extensive service history including old MOTs, numerous invoices and two sets of keysThe Z3 was the first modern mass-market roadster produced by BMW, as well as the first new BMW model to be assembled in the BMW Spartanburg plant in the US, with some major components - such as the engine and transmission - being imported from Germany. The Z3 was introduced as a 1996 model year vehicle, shortly after being featured in the James Bond movie 'Goldeneye'. While the film was number one at the box office, sales of the car peaked, and it was sold out by the time the car was launched. The Z3's design was a tad contentious at the time, it seemed that the market wasn't quite ready for such an Avant-Garde styling exercise from conservative BMW, but today the distinctive styling is regarded as a real virtue. The length of the bonnet and the short rear-end are complimented by swooping wheel-arches and side-vents, plus its purposeful yet comfy cockpit feels like a nice place to be.However, it wasn't until 1999, when BMW installed the performance version of one of the most beloved six-cylinder engines in the car industry, the 3.2-version of the S50 engine from the E36 M3, giving 316bhp at 7,400rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque, that the Z3 became an interesting driver's car. It could now sprint to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds and on to a maximum speed of 155 mph, aided by uprated suspension, an LSD, a wider track, and larger brakes, all combining to create a proper sports car experience. Today, these cars possess a real feeling of integrity and a distinctive 'old-school' charm; UK's Top Gear declared it "'the best handling car in the business."Apart from the engine transplant and performance upgrades, the interior of the Z3M received a mild-makeover too and bits of chrome were added, plus a host of 'M' upgrades to differentiate the Z3M from the standard car. With instant response from its naturally aspirated performance engine and a throaty growl from its quad exhausts, the Z3M is now considered as the last bastion of proper BMW sports cars. Today, the Roadster is appreciated for its timeless design, with these special cars now becoming rarer and much sought-after.Brightly finished in Dakar Yellow, this lovely example was specified from new with full black leather, air conditioning and heated seats. A splendid, UK-supplied example of the amazing 'drop-door' Z1. A lovely, UK-supplied, left-hand drive example of these innovative little roadsters Finished in Top Red with a Grey/Black interior. Owned by our vendor since 1994 and just two previous keepers Supplied with its original service book and 16 old MOT certificates along with a few receipts Expensive when new and rare today. Distinctive looks and cool doors guarantee continued popularity Of all the BMW Z cars, the Zukunft tag is arguably most fittingly applied to the Z1, a car that even now, thirty years after it first went on sale, looks fresh and modern. The Z1 used a skeletal frame on which the body panels were mounted, making it incredibly stiff, banishing scuttle shake and giving the car superb handling. The body panels were made of plastic, mounted on a substructure of hot-dipped galvanised pressed steel and the seams were continuously zinc welded, adding 25 per cent to body stiffness. The side panels and doors were made from General Electric's Xenoy injection-cast thermoplastic, the bonnet and boot lid were glass-reinforced plastic and the whole body was painted in a special flexible lacquer.State of the art thinking was evident in every aspect of the car's design. Those magnificent doors were operated by toothed belts which lowered both the window and door at the touch of a button. The Z1 used the innovative Z-axle suspension set-up at the rear and also featured some clever aerodynamics, the front of the car was designed to create a high-pressure zone ahead of the wheels to induce downforce whilst the aerofoil-shaped rear silencer helped to decrease turbulence and lift. The engine is one of BMW's finest in the form of the M20B25 unit taken from the E30 325i. The Z1 is special in every sense of the word, it's special to look at, to sit in and to drive and importantly, as the years have passed, people have clearly started to appreciate it as prices have soared. This is a marvellous little car with almost universal appeal and is, without a doubt, one of BMW's finest moments of the past thirty years. The ‘Holy Grail’ of 22Bs, 1 of just 16 examples - the ultimate Subaru road-car; from 18 years ownership. 1 of 16 ‘Subaru UK’ officially imported examples, believed to be the 16th car; with just ten or so still remaining Owned by our vendor for the last 18 years; award-winning, magazine and TV featured Retaining its car-specific ‘Type UK’ metallic booklet, floor-mats, badging and original service book Just two previous owners and 49,000 miles The perfect registration number of N 22B UK accompanies the car With a few choice (yet easily reversible) period enhancements, with original parts retained Built to celebrate both the marque’s 40th. anniversary and its third straight WRC manufacturers’ title, the 22B STi was billed as the production version of Subaru’s already-iconic two-door World Rally Car. With its swollen wheel arches, high-rise rear spoiler and an 80mm increase in width, it was as close to Colin McRae’s rally car as any mortal was ever going to get. It wasn’t a homologation special but more of a road-going replica. The ‘22’ in the model’s name referred to the engine capacity, which was increased from 1994cc to 2212cc. Officially, the turbocharged flat-four developed 276bhp, but the actual figure almost certainly started with a three. The ‘B’, meanwhile, stood for Bilstein, the damper supplier. The 22B is endowed with a specially developed 2.2-litre EJ22-engine with unique forged pistons, a seam-welded bodyshell (supposedly identical in shape to the WRC), special gearing, a twin-plate racing clutch, strengthened drive/prop shafts, driver-adjustable front/rear diff and bigger brakes; the suspension uses unique forged aluminium lower links, rose-joined transverse links, inverted Bilstein dampers and unique Eibach springs, plus a set of 17-inch BBS alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero tyres. Only 400 22Bs were built for sale to the Japanese domestic market, and supposedly, sold out within just hours of release. The car cost a shade under £40,000 in period, or close to £70,000 in today’s money. Another 24 22Bs were produced for the export market, 16 for the UK, along with another 5 for Australia, and 3 prototypes (known to have been issued with the ‘#000 number’), belonging originally to David Lapworth of Prodrive, Colin McRae and Nicky Grist. The 16 cars officially imported to the UK were modified by Prodrive with longer gear ratios and UK-specification lights. As a result of 50 or so 22Bs having been imported privately into the UK, Subaru had to wait until 1999 to register the 16 officially imported cars under the VCA’s Single Vehicle Approval scheme. The car presented here is a 1999 Subaru 22B-STI ‘Type UK’ – the absolute ‘Holy Grail’ for these already very special rally cars for the road. We understand that a ‘Type UK’ has never before been offered at auction, so it is a real honour to be able to do so. ‘Subaru UK’ officially imported only 16 22Bs and passed them on to Prodrive for approved modification. When new, these cars came with a very special car-specific aluminium information booklet, granted to the first owner and hand-signed by the Sales Director of Subaru UK, plus a ‘Special Instruction’ booklet, Type UK badging to the rear and model-specific floor mats. Quite remarkably, as it is very common for the original owner to retain these items for posterity, the car offered here, some 22 years later, retains these invaluable items, plus its original service booklet, manuals, two original keys and two original Subaru alarm fobs. We understand this car, chassis #GC8 071690, to be the 16th example of this very short and special run.  The car was originally sold new via Subaru dealer Quenby Brothers Ltd. of Baldock, Hertfordshire to its first owner, a Mr Stewart of Luton, on 13th March 1999, registered ‘T782 RPP’. He ensured it was returned regularly for servicing on five occasions to its supplying main dealer. The car was subsequently sold as a Subaru Approved Car by Lancaster Pangbourne (Subaru) on the 6th December 2001 to its second owner, a Mr Mason of Burnley, then with 17,500 miles, registered ‘CMN 22B’. It was then regularly taken for servicing to Subaru dealer H Robinson & Sons Ltd. of Rochdale on four occasions (up to 39,717 miles). Mr Mason went on to sell the car via Bowker BMW of Accrington in January 2004. Our vendor, a true Subaru enthusiast, then bought the car on the 10th February 2004, ensuring it was still under the Subaru ‘Proven Two Warranty’ scheme. He has also ensured the car has been regularly serviced, using such specialists as Cotton Competition of Preston, Prosport Ltd. of Stockport, and Lateral Performance Ltd. of Hertfordshire, and is up to date. Some choice enhancements were added including a full PPG helical synchro-kit (for TY752 gearcase) from Lateral Performance (fitted by Cotton Competition) in June 2008 (the original gear set still accompanies the car), an AP front brake upgrade in 2004 and a bespoke exhaust system by Powerflow in 2007, both done by District Garage of Bolton. Importantly, all of the original parts have been retained with the car, and could be easily refitted, but may require some recommissioning (see images). The Bilstein suspension was fully refurbished by Bilstein in 2018, just c300 miles ago; the car is fitted with a Tracker and a Clifford anti-hijack alarm, plus it comes with a 22B car cover. One of the most original Lotus Elans that we have ever seen This lovely Elan Sprint was supplied new on 27/01/1972 and has one of the most comprehensive history files that we have ever seen With a warranted mileage of just 21,886 Featured in a four-page spread of 'Classic Cars' magazine Offered directly from legendary British racing driver, Steve Soper The glass fibre-bodied Elan may only have been available initially as a Roadster Kit but its specification was very advanced and adhered to Chapman's “just add lightness” engineering philosophy. Power came from Harry Mundy's Ford-based Lotus 1558cc DOHC engine, it was fitted with disc brakes all round, and the independent suspension was set up to optimise ride quality and handling finesse, qualities for which this little car is still admired. It soon sired other derivatives including the Type 26R racer, the Type 36 fixed-head coupe, the Type 45 drop-head coupe, and the Type 50 Elan +2 of 1967.  The 1971 Elan Sprint was essentially based on the Series 4 Elan bodyshell and was primarily designed to rekindle demand and improve the performance of the nine-year-old sports car. Conceived by Lotus Sales Director, Graham Arnold, the Sprint's most notable external feature was the horizontally split two-tone paintwork in half a dozen vibrant colours. Meanwhile, providing the 'go to match the show' a new big-valve cylinder head with high-lift cams and a raised compression ratio, the work of Engineering Director Tony Rudd, provided a 25% increase in power to 126bhp. The drivetrain was suitably toughened and braced and the front callipers were redesigned to cope with the increased performance which was brisk for the time with 60mph arriving in 6.6 seconds,100mph in 19 seconds and a top speed of 123mph. This lovely Elan Sprint was supplied new on 27/01/1972 to a Mr Marcantono of Newcastle upon Tyne in kit form; the car costing £972 and the engine/transmission costing £795. Both invoices are in one of the most comprehensive history files that we have ever seen. There are literally dozens and dozens of invoices (mostly from Midland’s renowned specialist, Paul Matty), old MOTs, CDs containing many pictures and a completed record of all purchases during the car’s life. Unusually for an Elan, this allows us to warrant the mileage of just 21,886 as genuine. It's one of the most original Lotus Elans that we have ever seen. The first cars were converted by Ken Rudd of Ruddspeed before the factory took over. A 12-port aluminium-alloy cylinder head, developed by Raymond Mays of ERA and BRM fame, was usually fitted together with other internal modifications, in which form the Zephyr-derived unit produced 155bhp on triple SU carburettors and up to 170 horsepower on triple Webers. Only 36 examples of the Ford-powered Ace 2.6 were made, making it by far the rarest of the three engine types offered. Owned by the current vendor since 1971, this rare left-hand drive AC Ace 2.6 is the sixth example of the 36 production models built. Three people are known to have owned 'RSX 5006' during its first decade. It was purchased new in December 1961 by Mr A J Schwartz, a Paris resident with connections in Monaco, as an 18th birthday present for his son, Patrick. The son did not keep it very long, for by early 1964 it was advertised on the noticeboard in the recreation area at SHAFE in Paris. It is not known why this medium was chosen: perhaps Mr Schwartz had connections to the US military. Peter Napier, an Englishman working in Paris for Boeing, noticed the advertisement and bought the AC. A photograph on file, taken on the banks of the Seine around 1964, shows Peter behind the car. Peter Napier kept the Ace for several years, eventually selling it to a friend, Robert Seidman, an American writer who at that time was working in France. Robert moved to the UK in 1969 and brought the car with him, selling it to the current owner for £700 in August 1971 when he decided to return to the USA. With various problems needing to be fixed, and no time to carry out the work required, the owner took the Ace off the road in May 1975. A partial rear end rebuild was carried out over the next two years, and the car then remained in storage for the next 29 years while family life, business commitments and three house renovations took precedence. Between 1994 and 2006, the Ace was restored, the engine being rebuilt by Tony Steele and almost all other aspects of the renovation entrusted to internationally renowned marque specialist, David Sanderson. The engine was rebuilt to Stage IV tune with a Ruddspeed alloy cylinder head by Burton Power; triple Weber 40DCOE carburettors; Arias forged pistons; Carillo con-rods; stiffened main bearings; lightweight pushrods; and a Kent A14 'fast road' camshaft. The rear chassis was stiffened by incorporating Cobra box-section outriggers, while many original factory options incorporated at time of rebuild include a curved windscreen; 15' wheels; overdrive; alloy fuel tank; and a duplicate fuel system. Modern upgrades (all easily removable, no holes in bodywork) include a pre-engaged starter motor; 123 electronic ignition; LED headlight bulbs; and amber indictor bulbs. Most of the parts that were replaced in this process come with the car. Despite not being in a particularly high state of tune when manufactured, the Ace was specified with a factory roll bar. This is not fitted at present but would be supplied with the car (it simply bolts in). (The original cast-iron head complete with triple SUs and a Barwell manifold is available by separate negotiation with the vendor). '661 CGT' at last returned to the road on 10th June 2006, just in time for the AC Owners Club's annual concours on the following day when it won 2nd prize in the Ace class. Since then the Ace has been enthusiastically campaigned through the UK and Europe, commencing on 13th June 2006 with a Continental tour taking in Le Mans on the way to Monaco in an attempt, sadly unsuccessful, to make contact with the first owner's family. Italy, Spain and Portugal were visited in turn before the Ace arrived back home seven weeks later having covered 4,231 miles. Since then there have been trips to Ireland (2007), the Le Mans Classic (2010) and Scotland (2011), while that same year '661 CGT' also attended the Ace 2.6 50th Anniversary gathering at Stourhead, Wiltshire. The Ace served as the owner's wedding car when he married in 2013, and in June/July 2015 successfully completed an Arctic Circle trip taking in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway via the Netherlands and Germany. In total, some 43,000 kilometres (approximately 27,600 miles) have been covered since the restoration's completion in 2006. The owner describes the Ace's condition as generally very good, the only minor 'niggles' being poor synchromesh on the Moss box's 2nd gear, and a non-functioning electric clock. In the vendor's own words: 'The car is in very fine order, but is not perfect. This is a working road car, to be used and enjoyed.'The history file contains the original bill of sale; the owner's bill of sale; all invoices from 1971 onwards; and some correspondence with AC Cars which predates the current ownership. In addition, the Ace also comes with a manufacturer's handbook and brochure; a genuine Ford workshop manual for the engine; and press cuttings, magazines, and souvenirs of the (admittedly minor) competitive events it undertook in the vendor's hands. BMW has proved adept at exploiting this 'retro' trend, commencing in 1996 with the Z3 coupé and convertible, the styling of which brilliantly recalled its fabulous '328' sports car of pre-war days. Its next effort along similar lines - the 'Z07' concept car of 1997 - took its inspiration from the post-war Alfred Goetz-designed '507', a luxurious limited edition roadster.The sensation of the 1997 Tokyo Auto Show, the Z07 was received so enthusiastically that BMW took the decision to press ahead with a production version: the Z8. For the most part the Z8 remained remarkably faithful to the original concept, retaining the 507-like twin-nostril front grille and distinctive front-wing vents. A period-style interior had been one of the Z07's most remarked upon features, and that too made it into the Z8.The Z8's body panelling and spaceframe chassis were fabricated in lightweight and corrosion resistant aluminium, while the 32-valve 4,941cc V8 engine, shared with the M5 saloon, was built by BMW's Motorsport division. Despite a (US) launch price of over $128,000, initial demand was so high that a bidding war broke out, with many Z8s selling for well in excess of that figure. 2004 BMW M3 Convertible Transmission: manual Mileage: 99807The E46 BMW M3 was previewed at the German Motor Show in 1999 as a concept, although the actual car when manufactured bore a very close resemblance when it was introduced in October 2000. Only available as coupé or convertible the M3 was offered with a five-speed Getrag gearbox or a SMG drive logic transmission. The E46 M3 was full of electronic gadgetry, which included driver aids such as dynamic stability control, cornering brake control and a limited slip differential. With a reported top speed of 155mph and 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds, the M3 certainly lived up to its name and did not disappoint!Originally registered on 25th June 2004 this BMW presents in good order throughout. The silver paintwork is virtually unmarked and the grey leather interior is also in good order. The black hood is new and has hardly been used. The engine started immediately when requested and sounded very much ‘on-song’, clearly this E46 has been very well cared for. Fitted with the desirable manual gearbox, this M3 convertible is a great car to drive. 1973 BMW 3.0 CSi Transmission: manual Mileage: 44632 In 1968, BMW introduced a new two-door coupé that was designed and built by Karman. This new model was named internally as the E9 and the first version produced was named the 2800 CS, it featured an increased wheelbase to accommodate a new straight-six engine. The front of the car was restyled to resemble the E3 saloon model otherwise known as the 'shark nose'. Production of the E9 would run until 1975. During this time the 2800 CS was replaced by the 3.0 CS and 3.0 CSi in 1971. Performance of the 3.0 CSi compared well with its contemporaries, such as the E-Type Jaguar and the Ford Capri 3.0 but at over £5,500 it was a third more expensive than the Jaguar. Partly due to this formidable price, only 207 of this model were registered in the UK between November 1973 and November 1975. It was arguably the most advanced car for its time with standard Bosch K Tronic injection supplying fuel to the six-cylinder overhead cam engine, power steering, disc brakes all round and electronic windows front and rear.This stunning example of BMW’s Pillarless Coupé was UK registered on 7th May 1975 and is thought to be one of the first in the UK market. The vendor purchased this car in 2014 and almost immediately set about a considerable restoration project. The works started with an engine rebuild at Cotswold Cars. The car was then handed to restoration specialist, Justin Simmons at Pinkneys Green, Maidenhead for a comprehensive four-year restoration, costing over £100,000. 1993 BMW 850Ci Transmission: automatic Mileage: 138216Design of the 8 Series began in 1984 with the final design phase and production development in 1986. It debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in early September 1989 and was designed to move beyond the market of the original 6 Series. The 8 Series however had substantially improved performance as well as a far higher purchase price. Over 1.5 billion Deutsche Marks were spent on development; BMW used CAD tools, still unusual at the time, to design the car's all-new body. Combined with wind tunnel testing, the resulting car had a drag coefficient of 0.29 and offered the first V12 engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox on a road car. It was also one of the first vehicles to be fitted with an electronic 'drive-by-wire' throttle.This BMW 850Ci is a well presented example offered in a desirable colour combination. 1985 BMW M635CSi Transmission: manual Mileage: 77849The BMW M635CSi was the brainchild of BMW’s Motorsport department and arrived to the market in 1984. Karmann manufactured the early 6 Series BMWs from launch in 1976 before BMW took production in-house. The engine was a development of the M1 supercar's 3453cc, 24 valve, six cylinder unit producing 286bhp, the increased power necessitating chassis improvements which included altered weight distribution, revised suspension, larger brakes and a limited slip differential. There was also a close ratio five-speed gearbox (or four speed multi-mode auto) and a more luxurious interior, while outwardly this ultimate 6 Series model was readily distinguishable by virtue of its 'M Technic' bodykit. Performance was impressive with the M635CSi capable of reaching 0-62mph in around six seconds on its way to a top speed in excess of 155mph.This fabulous, very rare, early chrome bumper, matching numbers M88 powered manual gearbox 'Shark' comes from a private BMW Car Club member and enthusiast and is a car well known in the Club having been seen at many Club Shows and notably was on the club stand at the NEC Classic Car Show. Presented in probably the best colour combination of Cosmos Blau with Pacific Blue interior with a factory fitted Mtec body kit. In fabulous condition throughout, it sits on period uprated alloy wheels housing uprated 8 Series brakes (original wheels also supplied) and boasting a limited slip differential. 2001 Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph ‘Last of Line’ Edition Transmission: automatic Mileage: 26903Unveiled in March 1998, the Silver Seraph replaced the Silver Spur. All Seraphs were handbuilt at the Rolls-Royce factory in Crewe, England, which stopped making Rolls-Royce models in 2002 but continued with Bentley. The car had a base price of £155,175 in the UK and was powered by a 5.4 litre, aluminium alloy, BMW V12 engine making it the first twelve-cylinder Rolls-Royce since the 1939 Phantom III. Standard electronics included digital engine management, adaptive ride control and anti-lock brakes and, aside from the radiator grille, badges and wheels, the Rolls-Royce was externally identical to the contemporary Bentley Arnage sharing both its platform and bodyshell. Inside, the Silver Seraph and the Bentley Arnage were similar but quite distinct from one another. In the Seraph, the gear selector was column mounted, and the gauges followed a traditional Rolls-Royce layout; for example, without a tachometer. In both cars, the seats and dashboard were upholstered in Connolly leather and glossy burr walnut veneer and featured folding picnic trays for rear passengers.The Silver Seraph Last of Line is a special edition of the Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph. The model was meant to mark the termination of the production of Rolls-Royces in the factory in Crewe.
