Easy Twist-On Combination Handle/Strain Relief

Switchcraft introduces the AAA Series or Q-G Twist XLR connectors. The Q-G Twist Series is available in male or female cord plug, 3 through 7 pins or contacts. The unique features are the easy twist on combination handle/strain relief, and the reduced number of parts to assemble. With the insert built into the front shell, and the strain relief pre-loaded into the handle, the end user has only two parts to assemble - slide the handle onto the cable, solder the terminations, and twist on the handle. As the handle is tightened, the strain relief tightens around the outer jacket of the cable. Teeth on the strain relief keep it from rotating around the cable jacket and twisting the cable. The strain relief was designed to accommodate the most popular cable sizes. A rugged die-cast metal handle insures optimum protection, and increases signal shielding. Popular options include black and gold finishes, as well as a lower cost plastic handle version.

Great connector

Switchcraft has been around a long time and I found these to be their best xlr connectors. So easy to use and they take heat and solder well and don't melt like cheaper connectors. The 3 piece construction is one of the easier to assemble on the market. You'll love them!!

Great pro-level connector

As someone else mentioned, the two-piece design, metal backshell, and Switchcraft quality throughout make these excellent replacements for old/broken connectors or for home-made new construction. These are my favorite connectors to buy when making new cables from scratch. Simple, effective, durable, reliable. And, they aren't expensive. What's not to love?
Soldering is required, so if you can't solder or don't know someone who can, don't buy 'em.

The BEST XLR cable connetor

I'm an old guy and over the years I've used just about every XLR connector out there. These are the best bar none. Only two pieces, very solid grounding of the shell, and a tight grip on the cable. You can hand tighten the shell, but the all metal shell also has wrench flats so you can get it really tight. The Switchcraft green insulator takes a lot of heat without melting. I only wish Sweetwater stocked the 5-pin version of this connector.

Not for DIYers with limited soldering experience

When I learned soldering 40 years ago, I was taught that unless one can make a good mechanical connectionWhile the durability is good, these are not designed for DIYers with limited experience. They are great as long as you have access to someone with experience to assemble/repair cables for you. But the posts are too small, too closely spaced together, and provide no way to make a secure connection without solder.
