Fun to play, great for some music styles

I got one slightly used a few years ago. Had a defective lug and PDP shipped me a replacement, no problem. I always wanted a snare drum with wood rims. This is a good maple snare, definitely a good value. The claw hooks are a bit flimsy but work fine. The DW Mag throw off is excellent.

The one drawback is it's not an all-purpose snare drum.You can't really go for a high tuning, the claw hooks won't allow it. However, you don't want a drum with these classic wood rims to be real tight. The whole point is a low to medium tuning for a warm response. Excellent for country,country/rock and a loose type of backbeat. Picture the Levon Helm sound on those great Band records.

It's fun to play; the wood rims give a nice cross-stick and you can play on them for sweet clicking sounds. If you want this type of snare drum but don't want to break the bank, this is it.
