Tuberculosis Definition Tuberculosis is the infectious disease primarily affecting lungs parenchyma is most often caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis.It may spread to any part of the body including meaning kidney,bones and lymph-nodes.
Types of Tuberculosis 1. Pulmonary Tuberculosis. 2. Avian Tuberculosis (Microbacterium avium;of birds). 3. Bovine Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium bovis;of cattle). 4. Military Tuberculosis/Disseminated Tuberculosis (Invade the blood stream and spread to all body organs).
Risk factors  Close cantact with infected person.  Immuno compromise people.(eg.cancer, alcohol)  Renal failure.  Travel to a country where TB is common.  Health care workers.
Signs and symptoms
Tuberculosis Prevention  Cover the mouth.  Wear mask.  Vaccination.  Isolation.  Finish entire course of medication(MDR).
Tuberculosis Treatment  6-12 Months Course(Standard treatment is for 6 months i.e 2+4 months).  Streptomycin 15 mg/kg.  Isoniazid 5mg/kg.  Rifampin10mg/kg.  Pyrazinamide 15-30 mg/kg.  Ethambutol 15-25mg/kg daily for 8 weeks.

  • 2. Tuberculosis Definition Tuberculosis is the infectious disease primarily affecting lungs parenchyma is most often caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis.It may spread to any part of the body including meaning kidney,bones and lymph-nodes.
  • 3. Types of Tuberculosis 1. Pulmonary Tuberculosis. 2. Avian Tuberculosis (Microbacterium avium;of birds). 3. Bovine Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium bovis;of cattle). 4. Military Tuberculosis/Disseminated Tuberculosis (Invade the blood stream and spread to all body organs).
  • 4. Risk factors  Close cantact with infected person.  Immuno compromise people.(eg.cancer, alcohol)  Renal failure.  Travel to a country where TB is common.  Health care workers.
  • 6. Tuberculosis Prevention  Cover the mouth.  Wear mask.  Vaccination.  Isolation.  Finish entire course of medication(MDR).
  • 7. Tuberculosis Treatment  6-12 Months Course(Standard treatment is for 6 months i.e 2+4 months).  Streptomycin 15 mg/kg.  Isoniazid 5mg/kg.  Rifampin10mg/kg.  Pyrazinamide 15-30 mg/kg.  Ethambutol 15-25mg/kg daily for 8 weeks.
