Product overview
Cisco® Meeting Server is a scalable, secure, on-premises meetings solution. Its default experience is aligned to
Cisco Webex® and it also provides extensive configurability to customize video, audio, and web communication
to meet the unique collaboration needs of any customer.
The Cisco Meeting Server web app allows anyone to create, join, and run meetings easily from a supported
browser. Using browsers that support webRTC, users can quickly join a meeting without the need to download
an application simply by clicking a link. Once in the meeting, the web app provides a complete meeting
experience with roster lists and in-meeting controls. The web app is also the user’s portal to create meeting
spaces, which they can then modify (for example, change the space’s name, add PINs, etc.) and share meeting
join information.
Cisco Meeting Management is a mandatory component for Cisco Meeting Server; it connects to Cisco Smart
licensing to simplify purchasing, registering, and monitoring licenses. In addition, it enables administrators to
provision conference templates for users as well as for operators to monitor and manage meetings on Cisco
Meeting Server. Operators can easily monitor all active meetings with controls, such as add, drop, or mute
participants; change layouts; start or stop recording or streaming; and more.
Prominent features
High Scalability and Geographic Distribution
● Up to 24 Call Bridges can be deployed per cluster to offer scale (up to 16,800 concurrent HD calls),
resiliency, and multiple geographical points of presence. A review by Cisco engineering is required
in designs that require eight or more servers. Call Bridges can be deployed on a mixture of hardware
platforms, enabling customers to scale as required. Models include:
The Cisco Meeting Server 1000, which is a low-cost virtualized Cisco UCS® server for entry-level
deployments, supporting up to 96 HD ports
The Cisco Meeting Server 2000, which is the industry’s highest-capacity single server, supporting up
to 700 HD ports
Specification-based servers, which support up to 2.5 HD ports per physical core (further details can
be found on cisco.com)
● Clusters can be separated into call bridge groups to optimize load balancing and resource allocation
based on proximity
● Call Bridge clusters support up to 40 calls per second. (This is inclusive of participants calling in as
well as internal calls required to load balance, move participants, etc.)
● A meeting on a single Call Bridge supports up to 450 participants or up to 2,600 participants across
multiple Call Bridges in a single cluster.
When meetings span multiple Call Bridge instances, intelligent distribution links are automatically
maintained between Call Bridge instances to create a seamless, single meeting experience for all
participants.
Conference recording and streaming are supported when you need to archive or to scale beyond the
physical servers capabilities.

● Synchronize up to 75,000 Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) users across a 24-node
cluster, with each user having their own meeting space. Where fewer users are configured, the
maximum of 75,000 spaces still applies.
● The Cisco Meeting Server web app scales to the same limits as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
video calls
Audio over webRTC is limited to 24,000 calls
Cisco Meeting Server edge can support up to SIP capacity for external HD webRTC calls, a Cisco
Expressway™ cluster supports up to 800 external HD webRTC calls.
● Cisco Meeting Management supports up to 10,000 meetings per week
A cluster of 24 call bridges is supported with licensing only mode
Small instances of Cisco Meeting Management support up to 10 call legs per second (peak usage)
and 15 concurrent users (operators)
Large instances of Cisco Meeting Management support up to 20 call legs per second (peak usage)
and 25 concurrent users (operators)
User Experience
The default meeting experience is aligned to Webex and optimized for Cisco collaboration endpoints, allowing
end users to concentrate on collaborating without worrying about how the technology works. Additionally, the
meetings are fully customizable to support specific use cases:
● Specific meeting settings / experiences, participants permissions, etc. can all be pre-configured
● Which participants are seen on the screen and where they are displayed can be controlled through
importance levels or through pane placement
● The ability to create and use unique custom layouts is also available via a separate license
Cisco Meeting server is optimized to work with Cisco Webex Room, Board, and desk endpoints as
well as Cisco Jabber®. These devices all get roster lists and in-meeting controls to enhance the
meeting experience. Specific endpoints also support enhanced experiences with dual screen and
panoramic layouts.
Unlike most soft clients, the Cisco Meeting Server web app is not restricted to a fixed 16:9 aspect
ratio. It will optimize the layout to the window size that is available. A simple example is providing a
different layout if the devices are in portrait or landscape mode. If the user changes the window size
or aspect ratio, the web app will optimize the layout (change the number and location of participants
shown) in order to give the best view of participants and minimize wasted space.
The web app also allows for the content to be displayed in a separate window to the video. This
gives users more control over how they use their screen, as well as enabling a dual-screen
experience with video on one screen and content on the other.

Meeting Management
Cisco Meeting Management displays active meeting information with controls for managing the Cisco Meeting
Server deployment, without requiring the operator to understand the complexities of the underlying video
bridge configuration and call setup. In addition it reports on license usage and allows admins to provision
conference templates to simplify end-users’ creation of spaces. Supported functions include:
● The ability to list active and upcoming meetings for a 24-hour period across Cisco Meeting Server
cluster(s), as well as the ability to sort, filter, and search
● The ability to list participants in an active meeting
See who is speaking in the conference
Sort, filter, and search participants
Mute and unmute audio for individuals, all, or groups of selected people or new participants
Mute and unmute video
Make participants important
Change the layout (meeting wide or individually)
Configure where specified participants appear on screen
Add or drop participants
View call statistics (audio, video, or presentation)
Start a recording or streaming session of the meeting
Move participants between meetings
● Display a dashboard of license usage
● LDAP import and daily synch for users with the ability to provision conference templates
● A meeting events log, which is retained for seven days
● Enables customers to purchase subscription licenses that entitle them to the entire Meetings
portfolio (cloud, hybrid, or on premises) or just on premises. Alternatively, perpetual licenses for the
on-premises solution are also available
● Includes spaces (virtual meeting room environments), Cisco Meeting Server web app, Cisco Meeting
Management, scheduling, Microsoft Skype for Business interoperability, and firewall traversal in one
license
Platform support
Cisco Meeting Server software is optimized to run on Cisco Meeting Server 1000 and 2000 appliances. In
terms of scale, Table 3 shows the capacity a call bridge on Cisco Meeting Server can support on each server.
Other codecs and higher content resolution/framerate will reduce capacity. When meetings span multiple call
bridges, distribution links are automatically created and also count against a server’s call count and capacity.
One of the key benefits of Cisco Meeting Server is its ability to scale flexibly. Although Table 3 shows what can
be achieved in certain scenarios, individual servers can be configured to allow more participants to join

meetings by incrementally changing the quality experienced by existing participants. Alternatively, in larger
deployments, conferences can be load-balanced to maximize effective capacity.

Cisco Business Edition 6000 12.5 (Collaboration System Release Version 12.7)
The Cisco® Business Edition 6000 (BE6000) gives employees a full range of collaboration tools: premium
voice, video, messaging, instant messaging and presence, conferencing, video conferencing, contact
center services, mobility capabilities, and more. With these tools your small or midsize business can boost
productivity among employees and strengthen relationships with customers and business partners. And
they can help you speed decision making and reduce time to market.
Cisco BE6000 is purpose-built for companies with 25 to 1000 employees. The solutions consist of one or
more modular, stackable servers so you can easily add more capacity to support additional users. And
because they use virtualization technology, they pack a lot of collaboration tools into a small form factor.
Cisco BE6000 is delivered with a suite of preloaded, ready-to-activate unified communications and
collaboration applications. And as your business needs grow, you can easily “turn on” the additional
application options supported, including emergency services, contact center, video conferencing, edge
connectivity , and more. Cisco BE6000 and Cisco Webex can be purchased together with a subscription
using the Cisco Collaboration Flex Plan, which enables customers to simplify purchasing with meetings,
messaging, and calling capabilities in one offer.
With these choices in size and functionality, you can select a collaboration engine that meets your
business’s specific needs.
● BE6000H: Supports multiple applications (typically 8 to 10) in a single virtualized server platform;
maximum capacity of 1000 users, 2500 devices, and 100 contact center agents. Ideal for medium-
to large-scale end-to-end collaboration deployments (see Figure 1).
● BE6000M: Supports multiple applications (typically 5 to 7) in a single virtualized server platform;
maximum capacity of 1000 users, 1200 devices, and 100 contact center agents. Ideal for medium-
scale end-to-end collaboration deployments.
The servers are delivered ready for use, with a preinstalled virtualization hypervisor and preloaded
software, ready to install. Specific details of BE6000 platform components are available at the links
provided in following section.

software. Simply turn on additional collaboration applications as your business needs grow.
Applications
The following applications are typically used together to deliver the core unified communications features
of each BE6000 solution:
Calling
● Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Cisco Unified CM) is the call-processing engine of Cisco’s
Collaboration Architecture. It extends voice and video features to network devices such as IP
phones, telepresence endpoints, media-processing devices, gateways, and multimedia applications.
Cisco Unified CM is equipped for use with the Instant Messaging (IM) and Presence Service. In
addition, multimedia conferencing, collaborative contact centers, and interactive multimedia
response systems are made possible through its open telephony APIs.
● Cisco Unity® Connection integrates voice-messaging and voice-recognition functions to provide
continuous global access to calls and messages. Its advanced convergence-based communication
services allow you to use natural-language voice commands to place calls or listen to messages in
hands-free mode and to check voice messages from your desktop, either from your email inbox or
using a web browser. It also provides robust auto-attendant functions, including intelligent routing
for incoming calls and easily customizable call-screening and message-notification options.
● Cisco Unified Attendant Consoles provide the human attendant console operator with the tools to
quickly accept and effectively dispatch incoming calls to individuals across the organization.
● Cisco Emergency Responder helps assure that Cisco Unified Communications Manager sends
emergency calls to the appropriate United States Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the
caller's location, and that the PSAP can identify the caller's location and return the call if necessary.
The system automatically tracks and updates equipment moves and changes, helping ensure better
compliance with legal or regulatory obligations and reducing the risk of liability related to emergency
calls as a result.

● Cisco Paging Server provides paging capabilities for all users. It supports basic and advanced
paging features. Basic paging features require no license and allow point-to-point or group audio
paging between groups of up to 50 Cisco IP phones. An advanced paging license allows unlimited
paging groups. It also makes possible other advanced functions, including paging to overhead
analog and IP speakers, bell scheduling, prioritizing emergency notifications with the call-barge
option, prerecorded and text-only pages, integration with social media sites for notification, email
and Short Message Service (SMS) mass notification and all-number monitoring, Emergency Services
alerting, and integration with Cisco Jabber clients.
Messaging
● Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM and Presence Service provides embedded standards-
based enterprise instant messaging and network-based presence. The service is secure, scalable,
easy to manage, and rich in features. It’s tightly integrated with Cisco Jabber® desktop and mobile
instant messaging and presence clients and the Cisco Jabber Software Development Kit (SDK).
Collaboration clients such as Cisco Jabber use products from the Cisco collaboration portfolio to
perform many functions, such as instant messaging, presence, click-to-call, phone control, voice,
video, visual voicemail, and web collaboration.
Care
● Cisco Unified Contact Center Express product line helps businesses and organizations deliver a
connected digital experience, enabling you to provide contextual, continuous, and capability-rich
journeys for your customers, across time and channels. This easy-to-deploy and easy-to-use
solution is designed for midmarket companies or enterprise branch offices. Secure and highly
available, it supports powerful agent-based services and fully integrated self-service applications,
including Automatic Call Distributor (ACD), Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Computer Telephony
Integration (CTI), and digital channels, including email and chat.
Edge
● Cisco Expressway™ is an advanced gateway that helps make collaboration as simple, secure, and
effective outside the organization as it is inside. Expressway provides remote access to mobile users
and teleworkers, without the need for a separate VPN client. It supports business-to-business and
business-to-consumer collaboration, and video interoperability with third-party standards-based
systems. Expressway also enables seamless hybrid collaboration experiences, connecting on-
premises unified communications assets to Cisco Webex® cloud services.
Management
● Cisco Prime® Collaboration Provisioning provides an automated process for initial deployments and
for ongoing moves, adds, changes, and deletions. An intuitive user interface provides a single view
of a subscriber and the subscriber’s services. Cisco Prime Collaboration Provisioning significantly
accelerates site rollouts and dramatically reduces the time required for ongoing changes. The result?
Exceptional productivity gains and lower operating expenses. In addition, Cisco Prime Collaboration
Provisioning simplifies the tasks, allowing organizations to optimize IT resources and further reduce
total cost of ownership.
● Cisco Prime Collaboration Deployment is an application that is designed to assist in the management
of unified communications applications. It allows you to perform tasks such as migration of older
software versions to new virtual machines, fresh installs, and upgrades of existing applications.

● Cisco TelePresence® Management Suite offers flexible scheduling capabilities for video meetings,
including the ability to integrate with Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Office 365. At the core of the
Cisco collaboration infrastructure portfolio, the suite facilitates on-premises video collaboration. It
works with Cisco Meeting Server and Cisco TelePresence Server deployments.
Meeting
● (Not preloaded) Cisco Meeting Server brings premises-based video, audio, and web communication
together to meet the collaboration needs of the modern workplace. It works with third-party devices
and provides an enjoyable and intuitive user experience. It also scales easily and can be purchased
using our all-in-one, user-based multiparty licensing offer.
In addition, when used with a Cisco Business Edition Embedded Virtualization Basic license, BE6000M and
BE6000H platform models support co-residency of approved third-party collaboration applications as
described in the Co-Residency Policy. Cisco Business Eidtion Embedded Virtualization Basic licenses may
be replaced with a higher-tier feature edition to host any application if required.
