Equipment
30mL graduated measure gloves x 1 mushroom cap x 1
spatula glass stirring rod 250mL amber bottles x 4
electronic balance mask x 1 shrink seals
magnetic stirrer stainless steel beaker 1000mL graduated measure
hot/stirring plate 5mL oral syringe
Procedure
1. Wearing gloves and a mask, weigh 84g of Sodium Bicarbonate Powder in a 1000mL metal graduate
on the Electronic balance.
2. Add sterile water for irrigation to the 1000 mL mark.
3. Place the metal graduate on the magnetic stirring plate and place a clean magnetic bar into the
solution. Turn stirrer on, making sure it stirs without splashing or making noise. Stir until all powder
is dissolved (about 15 - 20 minutes).
4. Withdraw 5mL of solution into a 5mL oral syringe for Clinical Chemistry test (if applicable to your
institution).
5. Label.
