W
elcome to the first issue of
the new year (although it’s
cover dated ‘February’ it is
our first magazine to be published of
2017). 2016 was an interesting year for
Guideline Publications which saw our
titles grow in circulation and reach.
Our Facebook page, of which we now
include a monthly update in each
issue, has grown from strength-to-strength and Social
Media has really supplanted the forums as the focus of
the online modelling community. Our MMI contributors
and readers are really an international family and it’s
incredibly gratifying to watch the progress of their
builds and their dedication to the hobby. If you haven’t
logged onto our Facebook page yet, then please do,
you won’t regret it. 2017 promises even more exciting
developments for MMI. Over the next few issues we’ll
be experimenting with some new design features, so
please provide us with some feedback and let me know
what you like and don’t like. We’ve also got some very
special ‘special’ issues planned, beginning (as you’ll see
on our contents page) next month. We’re also planning
to continue the story of our ‘2021’ future war scenario. I
received some great correspondence on our last special
issue and I’d like to thank all of you who wrote to me and
shared your ideas for ‘2021’ scenarios. I only hope that
MMI continues to provide a source of entertainment and
inspiration in 2017.
So what do have for you in this issue? We start off with
an outstanding model from one of our longest-serving
contributors, Özgür Güner. Özgür’s build of Bronco
Models’ sWS ‘UHU’ is a really innovative way to display
a kit with a full interior. Next we have Ivan Momcilovic
Momcha who tackles another Bronco kit, this time
the Valentine Mk. IX. Another MMI regular Łukasz
Orczyc-Musiałek brings us up to the present day with
AFV Club’s Husky Mk. III VMMD. We then go back to
the 1930s and a fascinating piece of family history from
Marian Bunc brings Takom’s Škoda Turtle armoured
car to life. Our final article is a blast from the past: Rick
Lawler’s ‘Twisted Fate’ diorama first appeared in MMI
back in 2010 and it’s been given a new lease of life in a
redesigned article. It’s interesting to look back at some
of these older models to see how tastes and techniques
have evolved in the last few years. Finally, we welcome
back James Kinnear who takes us around Russia’s latest
military musuem, the Patriot Park just outside Moscow.
Until next month, happy modelling.

but the build was rather
uneventful, easy and enjoyable.
Starting and completing a 1/35
kit these days isn’t often an
achievement I commonly make
and it was a nice distraction
from the more complex kits
that I usually build. There was
one part (I believe it may be
the starter) which doesn’t
show the part number (A 45)
on the instructions. This was
easily overcome with a little
bit of study and careful test
fitting. The other possible area
of confusion is the small bolt

and even the slightest amount
of pressure will bend or dent
them so extreme care is needed
when removing each part and
sanding the attachment point.
The bends were made easy
with the use of my BUG tool
and the photoetched parts
were attached using super
glue. I was able to build the kit
in subassemblies to make the
later painting stage easier, what
you see in the finished photo
is just dry fit and mocked up.
The decals for the gauges must
be placed on a pre-painted
black background, which was
odd considering the one data
plate that has its own printed
black background. In fact, at
first I was unsure there were
even gauge decals in my kit
as they were difficult to see at
first glance but they are nestled
in the middle of the sheet.
In the end this is an all-
around fun little build of an
offbeat subject that I hope
to see more of, if you’re into
tractors or are just looking to
step outside the realm of strictly
armour, I can’t recommend
this kit, or the additional resin
replacement tyres, enough.
