Can I reuse my existing PVDM2 DSP modules in the Cisco 2900 Series routers?

Yes. You can install PVDM2s on the motherboard PVDM slots using the PVDM adaptor cards (PVDM2-ADPTR). You can also insert the high-density voice network modules (NM-HDV2s) with PVDM2s into the service-module slots of the Cisco 2900 and 3900 Series routers by using the network module-to-service module adapter card (SM-NM-ADAPTR).

What module will replace the Cisco AIM-VPN Module?

There is currently no plan for any VPN acceleration ISM module. The integrated services routers generation 2 include built-in hardware acceleration for encrypted traffic, and in effect they already include AIM-VPN functions as part of the default platform hardware.

What is an internal service module (ISM)?

The ISM is the evolution of the AIM slot available on earlier integrated services routers. It provides additional capabilities such as increased throughput and integration with the MGF in the integrated services routers generation 2. Note that existing AIMs will not work in the new ISM slot.

What is an enhanced high-speed WAN interface card (EHWIC)?

The EHWIC is an updated and enhanced version of the HWIC already available with existing integrated services routers. It offers greater speeds and higher port density than the current HWIC. EHWIC slots can support modules that provide both product-based Cisco Inline Power and PoE. EHWICs are available in two form factors: a singlewide form factor that takes up 1 slot and a doublewide form factor that takes up 2 slots. Note: You can combine two EHWIC slots into one bigger slot (EHWIC-D) by removing the center rail between two individual slots. The EHWIC slot is also backward-compatible with existing HWICs, voice interface cards (VICs), and WICs.

Are there any restrictions with the memory modules for the new platforms?

The Cisco 2900 Series Integrated Services Routers ship with higher default memory (both DRAM and Compact Flash) than today's integrated services routers. The Cisco 2951, 3925, 3925E, 3945, and 3945E routers have two modular dual-inline-memory-module (DIMM) slots for error-correcting code (ECC) double-data-rate 2 (DDR2) synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM)-each slot capable of integrating 512 MB to 2 GB DIMM.

I'm currently using a 2811 as our internet/BGP border router with receiving full routes, the current bandwidth is 15 meg and planning to upgrade to 30 meg. Will the current 2811 handle the bandwidth and the full BGP routes at the same time? I was thinking to ask our management to upgrade to at least a 2911 ISR G2 since the current router is old.

2911 should be able to handle 30 Mbps. The main problem is the full BGP routing table. And this can alleviated if you load up the router "up to the eyebalss" with DRAM. Personally, I'd prefer something chunkier, like 3925/3925E, for future proofing.

Looking at CISCO 2900 series data sheet, there is a sentence under "Benifits" The Cisco 2900 Series enables deployment in high speed WAN environments with concurrent services enabled up to 75 Mbps What does this mean? The interface is 1Gbps, why 2900 is only enabled up 75 Mbps?

That means the router running services (IE Zone-based firewall, NAT, NBAR, etc) can maintain 75Mb of traffic throughput. If you don't want to run any services, the throughput is more than 100Mb so a gig interface is necessary.

For an ISRG2 Cisco Routers HWIC Cards, are they limited by the respective number of supported HWIC slots or by the number of routed ports they will provide?

Yes, based on my research, a Cisco 2911 has four (4) HWIC slots, but it can only support two(2) HWIC-2FE or four(4) HWIC-SFP-CU. With HWIC-2FE, you can have a total of 7 Routed Ports, including the integrated routed ports of the Router and six (6) routed ports if you use four HWIC-SFP-CU.
