The airflow on the Cisco Catalyst 3850 is “front and sides” to back airflow except for the 48-port 10G SFP+ switch. The 48-port 10G SFP+ switch has support for front-to-back and back-to-front airflow.

No. When the USB console is used, the RJ-45 console receives the output of the USB console as well. This design allows the administrator to see when the USB console port is in use. This capability is useful for remote administrators.
