Do Wireless LAN Controllers support both SSHv1 and SSHv2?

What is the validity period of manufacturer installed certificates (MICs) on a wireless LAN controller and of the lightweight AP's certificates?

The validity period of a MIC on a WLC is 10 years. The same validity period of 10 years applies to the lightweight AP's certificates from creation (whether it is a MIC or a Self-Signed Certificate (SSC)).

How can I configure VLANs on my Wireless LAN Controller (WLC)?

In the WLC, VLANs are tied to an interface configured in a unique IP subnet. This interface is mapped onto a WLAN. Then, the clients that associate to this WLAN belong to the VLAN of the interface and are assigned an IP address from the subnet to which the interface belongs. How many WLANs are supported on WLC?

Since software version 5.2.157.0, WLC can now control up to 512 WLANs for lightweight access points. Each WLAN has a separate WLAN ID (1 through 512), a separate profile name, and a WLAN SSID, and can be assigned unique security policies. The controller publishes up to 16 WLANs to each connected access point, but you can create up to 512 WLANs on the controller and then selectively publish these WLANs (using access point groups) to different access points to better manage your wireless network.

Is Cisco Prime infrastructure or Cisco Prime NAM mandatory for the AVC solution?

No, it is not a mandatory requirement for enabling and using the AVC solution. The Cisco wireless controller web GUI itself provides configuration menus and reporting charts for enabling AVC and monitoring the wireless network. However, Cisco Prime infrastructure is recommended because it can be used across wired devices such as Cisco ASR 1000, Cisco Integrated Services Routers (ISRs), and Cisco wireless networks.

What management tools can we use with AVC?

AVC supports reporting using Cisco Prime Infrastructure with Assurance module.

How many applications does AVC recognize?

AVC currently recognizes thousands of applications, including voice/video, email, file sharing, gaming, and peer-to-peer (P2P) applications.

Do I need a special license to use the AVC feature over a Cisco wireless network?

No.

Does AIR-CT5520-K9 support AVC?

Yes, it support. AVC is currently supported on Cisco 2500, 5500, and 8500 Series Wireless Controllers; Cisco Flex 7500 Series Wireless Controllers; and Cisco Wireless Services Module 2 (WiSM2) when deployed in central mode (formerly local mode running AireOS Version 7.4 or greater).

What is a wireless LAN controller (WLC)?

Wireless networks have become a necessity today. Many corporate environments require deployment of wireless networks on a large scale. Cisco has come up with the concept of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network (CUWN) solution, which helps make it easier to manage such large scale deployments. WLC is a device that assumes a central role in the CUWN. Traditional roles of access points, such as association or authentication of wireless clients, are done by the WLC. Access points, called Lightweight Access Points (LAPs) in the unified environment, register themselves with a WLC and tunnel all the management and data packets to the WLCs, which then switch the packets between wireless clients and the wired portion of the network. All the configurations are done on the WLC. LAPs download the entire configuration from WLCs and act as a wireless interface to the clients.
