Counter lighter representing a miller circa 1870-1880.
These lighters were made available on the counters of tobacconists and estaminets in order to light pipes, cigars or cigarettes.
These lighters were often caricatured representations of personalities from the Third Republic or from various professions.
The Meunier's body serves here as a reservoir.
This is filled with a wick soaked in petroleum.
The cap is mounted with a hinge and acts as a stopper.
Period: 19th century.
It is made of white metal with a brown patina (regulate type), but it is rather heavy, it has the density of bronze.
