After taking a look at the YT Mob's enduro bike setups at the beginning of the season we checked back in with the team to see what parts have been swapped out through the 2023 EDR race season. For 2023 the refreshed YT Mob team featuring Jack Moir, Kasper Woolley and Christian Textor have the freedom to choose whatever components they want for their YT race bikes. Check out the details below.

bigquotesHaving the chance to use whatever product you want is a rider's and mechanic's dream! There weren’t any extraordinary components we used or tried within the team, but I think having the freedom to change is powerful, regardless of whether you take advantage of it or not. The only big change from the beginning of the season (team camp) for Texi was the brakes and tires. I can already tell you that the off-season will be used to try more components and who knows maybe we will see some bigger changes for the next season! Patrick Eckl, Sports Marketing Technician, YT Industries

The current components are in black, the previous setup is indicated by red text.

MoiMoiTV keeping the enduro hype alive.

bigquotesThe UNCAGED approach has been great, it allowed me to use components I was already comfortable with, something that is not a given when switching teams. This off-season I’m excited to try some new tires, as well as different seat stay lengths, shorter of course...Jack Moir

photo
At the start of 2023 it was just Christian Textor running an Ochain, but by the final round, Kasper Wolley had also fitted the device to his SRAM X01 cranks. While Christian swapped from the standard model to the new Ochain R, Kasper has opted for just the Ochain device. Both riders are running a 32t chainring and the 9-degree setting.

photo
Jack Moir is the only rider on the team opting for an air shock and since starting the season with a RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate he has swapped this for the new Vivid. Any eagled-eyed viewers of Jack's videos will have seen he was testing this shock on his bike a fair bit ahead of release.

bigquotesI have mainly just had to stiffen up my suspension as I got back up to speed. It’s been a challenge this year because I was riding so much slower a couple of months ago compared to now. We’ve worked hard on getting a good tune for the shock. Some other notable changes are my switch to a ‘non-AXS’ drivetrain, and I'm trying straight pull spokes in the front wheel for increased stiffnessKasper Woolley

photo
Christian has switched from Continental DH tires to a Schwalbe First Ride prototype.

bigquotesThis year (& the UNCAGED approach) was amazing! It was like being a kid in a toy store. I used the time in between races to constantly test different components but always came back to my 'basic setup' for the races as it felt best overall.Christian Textor

photo
One interesting aspect we have spotted is no rider on the YT team has the same brake setup. Jack is running some unreleased SRAM brakes while Christian is using TRP's DH-R Evo and Kasper is on Shimano XTR. Christian has modified his TRP brakes to use Shimano Saint hoses and mineral oil.

photo
Jack and Christian have upgraded from SRAM X01 AXS to the new XX Transmission but Kasper has switched to the SRAM X01 mechanical drivetrain.

"MoiMoiTV keeping the enduro hype alive" is possibly the greatest understatement in history

His commentary at races is funny haha
  • 11 0
@bikerdre: I always get a good chuckle watching him react to people bailing
  • 17 0
 @dylansmyth: Oh no, Gary!
  • 13 0
The best part of that first picture is knowing Mr. Bomba is behind them in pink underwear trying to swim
  • 3 0
@Tmackstab: Yea haha gotta love Bomba

Mass return to 31.8mm and narrower bars coming up.
  • 12 2
these 3 guys are faster than anyone here, they all run (relatively) narrow bars.

Take notes folks
  • 12 0
@formerbmxguy: lots of modern tapered, single lock grips add ~10mm total to bar width. Not trying to dispel anything here because I’m down for a narrower bar resurgence! Just an observation Wink

flag valrock (Sep 28, 2023 at 13:07) (Below Threshold)
31.8 is just what bike comes with
  • 9 0
@valrock: On their website, all their Capra bikes come with 35mm bars.
  • 11 0
@valrock: Literally every component is rider choice. They could have picked any bars they want and they went with the 31.8's. YT Mob is special like that. All the Capras come stock with 35's tho.
  • 6 0
@formerbmxguy: Fortunately I don't have to go as fast as them, as I'm not being paid to do so. So I can afford the luxury of 785mm bars
  • 2 3
@danielfloyd: I don't think they can choose... they have to run what is marketing department is choosing so you all run and buy stock of old 31.8mm bars now that are collecting dust Big Grin
  • 2 0
 @valrock: you poor lost soul
  • 3 0
I know it is horrible logic, but 35mm just looks right to me so its what I run. Has nothing to do with ride feel or flex. Now all the bars and stems I have ar 35mm so going back would be a bigger pain/cost for me.
  • 24 1
Cool, hopefully YT doesn’t drop out of edr too.
  • 16 1
It's a good sign that Jack's signed to 2 more years.
  • 8 1
Maybe they also drop out of edr because a better race series is getting launched.
  • 5 1
@mammal: rider's contracts didn't mean $hit to YT in the past.
  • 25 5
Crappy, boring bikes. These guys would be way faster if they put 18 different colors of anodized CNC parts on their bike.
  • 27 0
That scheme didn't work for me and now I'm stuck with a jelly bean bike.
  • 17 0
You mean whatever random color is on sale at CRC?
  • 2 0
@suspended-flesh: a good place to be.
  • 9 0
"Any eagled-eyed viewers of Jack's videos will have seen he was testing this shock on his bike a fair bit ahead of release."

I don't think you needed eagle eyes to catch the blatant close ups and attempt at creating hype for the new shock. (It worked)
  • 13 2
What does special Charger 3 mean? Custom valving or?
  • 26 2
Lol, downvoted for a question. Someone's lycra is on too tight.
  • 1 0
Yeah likely is custom valved/special tune from RS.
  • 8 0
I could be wrong but aren't DT Swiss EX511 Rims while DT Swiss EX1700 are rims + hubs? I think Moir is running unreleased DT hubs
  • 2 0
I think I remember them saying something in one of the preseason videos that they started off with EX1700s because they were available off the shelf, then switched to stuff they laced up on their own later.
  • 5 0
Yeah, he said they are high engagement dt hubs.
  • 2 0
 @Roost66: Higher engagement than 3.3deg w/ 54T ratchet?
  • 1 0
@powturn: Think so yeah, there was a quick mention of it in the first or second USA enduro practice videos.
  • 2 0
 @powturn: 54t is 6.7°...
  • 2 0
 @boozed:
Doh, good catch. You're clearly more sober than I was. Can I blame it on DT for naming hubs 180 & 240 but not 360?
  • 5 0
Swapping in L stays to the XL, and then others swapping XL stays to L and M frames. Says something about finding the happy medium?
  • 1 0
Maybe result into the same bike lenght
  • 1 1
yep, was going to cheer the move to shorter stays, because cornering is important, but then the third guy went with longer xl stays on the medium frame. Personally I like long reach and short stays, and really dislike longer stays when trying to hit techy drops.

Christian with the Oak Components lever mod. Wondering if TRP will ever fix the lever adjustment range on their stock levers
  • 1 0
what's wrong with the stock range?
  • 5 0
@workingclasswhore: If you have whopper jr hands then they end up just a bit too far away to be comfy. For most rides under 2 hrs they’re fine but bike parks are where I noticed my hands were way more beat up despite having more power than my 4 pot XTs. Wasn’t aware of of Oak Components but I have a set of freedom coast levers to try out at Big Bear this weekend
  • 3 0
Why did Kaspar switch from 180 fork to 170?
Would be interesting to hear.
I could imagine it to get the front end lower might be the answer, he sin’t the tallest guy in the world.
Either way, it would be fun to hear from the riders why certain swaps were made (expect for plain old availability).
  • 5 0
Wonder what brakes moi moi is running . Went from code rsc to just "SRAM"...
  • 30 0
 bleck baux
  • 9 0
 Mavens
  • 9 0
 He’s running SRAM Level T’s
  • 1 0
Yeah they're Mavens and they should be coming in the next 6 months if this is anything to go by uspto.report/TM/97920237, although I really hope they make them in a silver colour way for ultimate bling factor
  • 5 0
Interesting to see Kasper on the traditional drivetrain
  • 3 1
Good to see. AXS (especially transmission) isn't for us heathens who like to dump gears.
  • 1 3
@noodlewitnosteeze: Yes it is. You can program the shifter to skip 3 gears with one click/hold. Its fantastic
  • 5 0
@Simann: I can do that, and I didn't need to spend $1100 (at a minimum) to do it.
  • 6 1
They got me second guessing my bar width, but I do enjoy 800 @ 6'2"
  • 6 1
i borrowed a bike with 800s last weekend, it felt ridiculous!
  • 4 1
I cut my 800mm bar to 780mm for tree clearance and found handling improved everywhere for me, just a little taller than you.
  • 6 1
Just trimmed from 780 to 770 mm and realised I should have done it last year!
  • 1 0
@andrewbikeguide: Height? I’m 6’2” as well and can’t decide if I should stay at 800 or go 770/780
  • 3 0
Is Kaspers Zeb HSC and LSC counted from fully open and not from fully closed? If not, his compression setting is very "damped".
  • 2 0
I just bought a used stumpjumper evo with these TRP brakes on it. They are the best brakes I have ever used. They feel so nice and that bite at the end of the modulation is amazing.
  • 1 0
I’d be curious to know if the rear inserts were dropped just for the threatening rain and need to change rubber?!?

All this talk about short bars… is this just the impact of the Scottish race and the few other tight locations?

It would be interesting to do a comparison to race bike Vs at home bike for a few pros
  • 1 0
Am I reading correctly that Jack Moir runs 220mm rotors both front and back? If true, he'd be the only racer I've heard of running the big boi in the rear. Honestly, I had half a mind to do that myself.
  • 3 0
why have all of them gone to inserts at the back?
  • 3 0
Probably to prevent rear flats and save weight. Front pinch flats are pretty rare.
  • 4 0
@warmerdamj: I do the same for this reason. Lets me run a reasonable PSI in the rear with a lightweight insert.
  • 3 0
@gafotes: agreed, with no insert and heavier chasing in the rear I’m always running a lot of difference ( 19 psi super trail front / 26 super gravity rear ) Vs Cush core xc rear where I can go 22/23psi and keeping the rim round.
  • 1 0
I saw Jack's bike at the US Open and I could have sworn it had 6 pot callipers on it, if not they were the biggest 4 pots I've ever seen...?
  • 3 0
 4 pots with covers.
  • 2 0
 Google SRAM Maven
  • 1 0
Gotta say, the TRP brakes are just the best! Love the builds on all the bikes. Kinda like the hand guards, want to get some since im from a dirtbike background!
  • 2 0
TRP brakes with Shimano hoses and oil? What's the benefit here?
  • 4 0
Muc Off team, Neko Mulally and others are doing the same. Hoses are 5.5mm on Saints versus 5mm with longer banjo
  • 1 0
 They use the same stuff
  • 2 0
I think the hoses are stiffer, per Neko's messing with different brake setups. Not sure about benefits of the oil.
  • 1 0
@souknaysh: Neko's on Dominions in his latest video.
  • 1 0
@andeh23: He just changed recently, he was running TRPs last season and before his injury.
  • 1 0
Wider hose, Shimano vs TRP min oil really isn't a big difference. Shimano is probably just easier to get lol
  • 1 0
@noodlewitnosteeze: TRP oil has a higher boiling point...allegedly.
  • 4 0
The longer banjo/ crimp area on the larger/ stiffer Saint hose also helps dissipate heat build up.
  • 1 0
@lwkwafi: Shimano's brake fluid boiling point is higher than TRP's.
  • 3 0
 @workingclasswhore: Nope, Shimano's BP = 536F, TRPs BP = 510F. I guess if you're racing 26F might make a difference.
  • 1 0
@counterpoint: that is nice, gotta love you can get pads from shimano if you need to.
  • 5 3
The O-Chain starting to look legit.
  • 3 0
It’s legit if you only care about downhill. It’s like bolting on the worst engaging hub you can find on your bike.
  • 1 0
@gafotes: or if you pedal to your descents and are ok with servicing on par with analog watch repair every month.Aawesome feeling on the bike but only worth it if you strictly ride lift service or shuttle.
  • 1 0
@gafotes: hah, it's like buying a super fast engaging hub and then paying for an expensive mod that will turn it into the slowest you mean
  • 1 0
Very interesting to see these different gears and set ups from each rider. Thank you verrrry much!
  • 1 0
I feel vindicated switching my 180 air spring out to a 170 in my Zeb this year.
  • 1 0
I'm wondering how Moir is getting away with so much seatpost coming out of the frame ? Seat must be in the way sometimes.
  • 1 0
Jack was back on a Super Deluxe Ultimate (air) for the US Open Enduro.
  • 1 0
US Open enduro was a bit more flowy, lighter weight shock makes sense.
  • 1 0
Jack looks like he's just about to enjoy bashin' someone.
  • 1 0
Christian Textor is a great name for a Bond villain.
  • 1 0
 I always liked yellow bikes
  • 1 0
would have been nice to see the sidewalls too.
  • 1 0
 hurray, Inserts are cool again!
  • 1 1
Haven't we had this article this year already?
  • 5 0
That article didn't include rider height which is pretty damn important in this equation IMO
  • 3 0
Parts have been swapped out through the 2023 EDR race season. The current components are in black, the previous setup is indicated by red text.
  • 1 3
Just of curiosity, did they have to run Rock Shox or was that what everyone chose?
  • 9 0
The whole point of this is that they don't HAVE to run anything......
  • 2 0
@hukriede: Yeah they say that, but all on SRAM drivetrains and RS suspension? Really?
  • 2 0
@SonofBovril: Kasper was on Fox suspension earlier on in the year and chose the ZEB over the 38, Jacks been running SRAM/RS most of his career and prefers it and same with Christian. I don’t get how people still think they’re forced to run something even after countless mentions of them being able to run ANYTHING. ‍♂️
