With the new Gen 2 timer, we’re able to update some internal components for a stronger Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection as well as an improved range.

No. The new Gen 2 timers utilize the Gen 2 Wi-Fi hub, the same hub that powers the Wi-Fi capabilities of the B-hyve XD line of hose timers and B-hyve Leak Detectors.
The Gen 2 version of the timer has a darker casing, vs. the Gen 1 timer's light gray case. The Gen 2 timer also says "Gen 2" directly above the yellow B-hyve "B" button on the device.
