Purported 8C/16T AMD Zen 5 Ryzen 8000 and intriguing RX 7900 non-XT make their first public appearance on distributed computing platforms

Rumors about AMD's future Zen 5 Ryzen 8000 APUs have been circulating for a few months now. Two processors, apparently from the Ryzen 8000 series, were recently spotted on distributed computing systems, indicating that early engineering samples of these CPUs are already in use.

The CPUs, which carry the OPN 100-000001290-11_N, were spotted on Einstein@Home and LHC@Home project pages. What is more intriguing is that the entries indicate the CPUs to belong to Family 26, which indicates that we are looking at a new generation of AMD parts. For those not in the know, Zen 3 and Zen 4 belong to Family 25 while Zen, Zen+, and Zen 2 are from Family 24. From the project pages, it looks like this is an 8C/16T part.

The other interesting aspect of these entries is the GPU. While Einstein@Home mentions a generic AMD Radeon Graphics with 12 GB memory, LHC@Home shows an AMD Radeon RX 7900 GPU. AMD hasn't officially listed any reference non-XT cards for the RX 7000 series, apart from the RX 7600, so it is not clear if there's an impending RX 7900 non-XT launch or if it's just the benchmark not identifying the GPU accurately.

It is still early days for Zen 5, which is expected to launch only sometime in H2 2024. From what we know so far, Zen 5 will use the same core and cache configuration as current Zen 4 processors. Rumors also indicate double-digit IPC gains over Zen 4 along with a significantly larger L1 cache and higher boosts.

On the mobile side, AMD is rumored to introduce 4 nm Strix Halo, Hawk Point, and Strix Point APUs with much improved RDNA 3+ integrated graphics.
