Outgoing Kalangala Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Apollo Mugume has handed over office to Juliet Najjuma with an appeal to work together with district leaders on effective monitoring of government programmes across the 84 islands.

Mugume who has served in the role for a year, was transferred to Kyotera district.

He informed his successor, Najjuma, that the islands’ major problem was the poor road network.

"Liaise with district chairperson, councillors and technical teams of every department for successfully managing to monitor government programs as well as settling islanders' problems," added Mugume.

Najjuma vowed to build on Mugume's achievements and promised to promote development among islanders despite all the mentioned challenges.

Bodaboda riders led by Ronald Mutebi lauded Mugume for his service and revealed that he enabled them to gain from the Emyooga program.

Sarah Nanyanzi, the Deputy RDC, said that she will work hand-in-hand with Najjuma on promoting the NRM manifesto, advising where necessary and enhancing peace among the islanders.

This is the first time Kalangala has had women in the office of the RDC and Deputy RDC.
