Talented Decision Making?

Talented Decision Making?

Lots of chatter out there about Simone Biles this last week. The only opinion that matters about her decision is hers...(AND MINE!!!- Says the tweeting internet fingers)

See internet opinion number 7,765,831.3** (below)

I am happy that she felt confident in what she chose to do. It’s weird how fanatical and angry people get about others making decisions for themselves. Let’s normalize people making the best decision for themselves regardless of outside pressure or the timing of the decision. I think these things relate a lot to making career moves too.

Yes, your decision to make a move will affect others (sometimes in a meaningful way and most times not) but there is nothing more reassuring than taking care of your needs regardless of how others define their importance. Maybe it’s for more money. Maybe it’s more time for your family. Maybe it’s for time to travel. Maybe it’s for your mental health. Maybe it’s to become an Olympic Gold Medal Gymnast, probably not (For me, def not).

I guess all I am saying is that it brings me joy to see people confident in their life decisions. Seeing thousands of people make the decision to change jobs over the years for various reasons has maybe given me a new perspective. When a candidate accepts an offer it's an amazing feeling. On the flip side, I never get mad at the rare occasion of someone accepting an offer at another company because I know if we have done our best, that person is confident in their decision and they have factored in all sorts of things before saying yes or no. Thankfully SheerID opportunities are as valuable as an Olympic Gold 😉. If you value something more than that… it must mean quite a bit to you.

So in summary... Nothing but respect for Simone for winning in her own way. Happy to see she made the best decision for herself. Strength isn't always defined by pushing the limits, sometimes it is as simple as knowing your limits. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Recognize what decisions help you fill back up and go for it.
