Picking your battle buddies for data center and HPC infrastructure ⚔ Data center builds are complex, with many things to consider. Site selection, available power, physical security, efficient cooling, redundancy, and ESG goals are only a few critical components to be examined. When looking around to see who you are going to pick to be your battle buddy for each component, keep in mind that no single company can be everything for everyone. Find a buddy that is really skilled at each specific piece of the project. A buddy who will help you execute that piece of the project faster and leave you with infrastructure that is flexible and scalable for generations of hardware to come. When it comes to choosing your structured fiber OEM, here are some questions to ask: Are they an active member of the TIA Standards Committee? Do they make patch panels that are exact, passive replicas of your core switch hardware (Cisco, Arista, Brocade, etc)? Do they provide design support and VISIO's at no charge? Will their solution support data rates of 400Gbe and beyond? Do they have domestic manufacturing? What is the lead time for high-fiber count trunks? Ask to see their testing procedures. Are they just industry standard, or do they go above and beyond? What design and logistics strategies do they have in place to keep shipments organized, materials easy to find and easy to install?
