Let's start where it all began — 100 years ago! #100YearsBMWMotorrad In 1923, the foundation stone for BMW Motorrad was laid and our first model, the BMW R 32, was unveiled to the world at the Berlin Motor Show in September after Max Friz, BMW's chief designer at that time, had completed it's full-scale construction within four weeks. Its heart? Clearly the now world-famous BMW Boxer engine, which has been perfected over a century in today's models. The unique opposed-twin cylinder concept is convinced with reliability and high performance. Inspired by aircraft construction, the technology has been adopted for motorcycle production. The doors to motorsport racing opened shortly after in 1925 with the BMW R 37: Rudolf Schleicher, motorcycle sportsman and engineer at BMW, further developed the pioneering R 32. With the output increased from 8 hp to 16 hp, key success factors kept the Boxer engine at the center with steel cylinders. But what happened next? A dream of many boxer fans came true in 2007: BMW Motorrad launched the BMW HP2 Sport, the sportiest, most powerful and at the same time lightest production boxer of its time. Designed for the ambitious sports rider it fascinates with numerous exclusive details that were previously only used in racing. Aerodynamically optimised fairing parts, the shift assistant, a dashboard like the one used in Moto-GP, the forged aluminium wheels and the racing brake system with aluminium wheels and the racing brake system with radially bolted calipers. Regardless of the disadvantages in terms of aerodynamics due to the cylinder arrangement of the boxer engine, BMW Motorrad has deliberately decided to further develop this engine concept for the racetrack. And the bike showed that it lived up to the developments with flying colours: with the BMW Motorrad works team, the racing boxer completed renowned 24-hour classics such as Le Mans and Bol d'Or. #MakeLifeARide #NeverStopChallenging #BMWMotorrad
