Simple Electronic Signature: Simple electronic signature is any information like symbol, text, image that can be applied electronically. Example: any GxP System which has inbuilt e-Sign function. This type of signatures may have less controls or sometimes no controls when the documents are out of the source system. 1. Signature can be tampered easily 2. Lack of proper identification of signature information. 3. Lack of assurance on integrity of the data 4. Difficult methods to find the tampering of data after signature implementation B. Digital signature: Digital signature is an electronic signature with extreme controls. Digital signatures always can be validated by issuance authority. Digital signatures will be handled by cryptographic methodology which provides the high security and reliability on signature as well as data. Example: The systems that use Microsoft certification Authority or any centralised system for certificate verification inside and outside of the source system. Advantages: 1. Signature are issued by authority 2. Signatures are authenticated with personal information 3. Signature information is readily available 4. Proof of Integrity of data and signature can be verified 5. Cannot be repudiated. 6. Forgery can be found easily. 7. Regulations can be complied. The objective of implementation to ensure authenticity, security and reliability.
