Overview

TS-253D: NAS with Quad-Core Processor and 2.5 GbE LAN

The QNAP TS-253D NAS is ideal for business and home users looking for a high-performance NAS. Transfer speeds of up to 5 Gbps can be achieved by configuring port aggregation with the two built-in 2.5 GbE ports. The TS-253D enables 4K (H.264) transcoding on the fly with its Intel Celeron J4125 Quad-Core processor and file sharing across all connected devices. This QNAP NAS is upgradeable with a PCIe 2.0 x2 slot for an expansion card and up to 8GB of RAM.

Upgrade to 2.5 GbE

The TS-253D features two 2.5 GbE LAN ports that allow you to use existing CAT5e cables to upgrade network speeds from 1 GbE to 2.5 Gigabit. In addition, the two 2.5 GbE ports support port aggregation for up to 5 Gbps.

Quad-Core Processor

The TS-253D features a quad-core Intel Celeron J4125 2 GHz processor (up to 2.7 GHz), up to 8 GB DDR4 memory and support for SATA 6 Gbps drives. Support for the Intel AES-NI encryption engine boosts encryption performance while also keeping your NAS data secure. You can flexibly install SSDs for cache acceleration to maximize network and storage performance for data-intensive applications.

Real-time 4K Transcoding

Featuring Intel UHD Graphics technology, the TS-253D supports hardware decoding and real-time transcoding in two 4K channels, allowing you to convert videos into universal file formats that can be played back smoothly on multiple devices. You can also watch high-quality 4K media files on an HDTV using the HDMI 2.0 output or use it with Plex Media Server to stream media files to mobile devices and media streaming devices (including DLNA, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast).

Increase HBS backup efficiency with 2.5GbE connectivity

Hybrid Backup Sync (HBS) consolidates backup, restore, and synchronization functions (using RTRR, Rsync, FTP, CIFS/SMB) to easily transfer data in the TS-253D to local, remote, and cloud storage (including Microsoft One Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and more) as a complete data storage and disaster recovery plan. Supporting QuDedup technology that eliminates duplicate data at the source, HBS reduces the size of backup data and speeds up future backup jobs. This is also useful for accelerating multi-version backups for greater protection against data loss.

Secure your installations

QVR Pro allows you to arrange a dedicated and independent storage space to monitor data on the TS-253D and take advantage of the benefits of scalable NAS storage. It greatly simplifies camera management, storage allocation, live camera viewing, and playback. Supporting over 5,000 IP cameras (including industry-standard fisheye cameras), QVR Pro offers 8 free licensed channels for surveillance as well as the optional QVR Pro Camera Channel Expansion License for broader security deployment. You can also use the QVR Pro Client mobile app to monitor at any time, or use a USB webcam as an ONVIF network camera with the QUSBCam2 app.

    Transfer from SYNOLOGY to QNAP

    Hello,
The LDLC service is as usual very professional, very responsive, in short irreproachable with competitive prices
I was hesitating between the SYNOLOGY DS720+ and QNAP TS-253
I switched from SYNOLOGY to QNAP at the beginning of 2021 after reading glowing reviews of QNAP
Despite the difficulty of switching to a new system I wanted to choose the best technology.
The QNAP is clearly a step above in terms of hardness, has better performance, better connectivity, scalability with 2.5Gb Ethernet ports and the possibility to add an expansion card not offered by Synology.
If like me, your main application is the management of your music libraries, you may be disappointed.
The QNAP operating system does not allow you to import your own music playlists (M3U); it is obvious that if you have built your lists for years, it is impossible to redo all this work.
It is important to understand that this very basic functionality is voluntarily not supported because as soon as the QNAP system is installed, it offers you the ROON application with which the company has developed a partnership; ROON is an excellent solution, perhaps the best one, but it is not free (12€ / month, 120€ / year and 650€ lifetime license).
This is a point that I did not even imagine and therefore did not check before buying.
I find this unacceptable and I want to share it to avoid the same mistake to others
This point has been confirmed to me by QNAP customer service and will not be developed further.

    Loïc

Upgrade from HS 251 to TS253

Going from 1GB of ram to 4 is a bit life changing. It was incredibly easy to switch the disks and replacing them in a second stage to increase capacity was long but just as easy. I have no complaints about the price of the additional cards and the fan which is super quiet but a fan nonetheless.

    A good product but...

Many tools make the configuration of this product a bit cumbersome. More simplicity would have been welcome. Performance wise there is nothing to complain about except the noise of regular disk accesses even when no PC is connected and the internal AV is disabled.

    QNAP model TS - 253D

Activation of transcoding is conditional on the purchase of additional CAYIN MediaSign licences. This is necessary even for personal video files. This application replaces CodexPack in recent versions of QNAP.

    Better than ts-251d

I bought a first ts-251d taken back under warranty by LDC after a too long procedure. Having said that this one is much more comfortable with the Quad Core.
    I added 4g of so-dimm cl17 crutial, and it's great.

    Perfect

Intended to replace the disk of my Freebox...
I integrated two Seagate IronWolf disks
    The NAS is very quiet...
The management system is intuitive, and the installation a child's play...
To be seen in the long run
