Renovations to PACC 500 at VAMC West LA

KAL was tasked to perform schematic design development drawings, construction documents, cost estimates, technical specifications, and related information for PACC 500 Renovation at the VAMC West Los Angeles, CA. The renovation was of the 15,755 SF central 1st floor entry waiting area, from desk administration areas, and the addition of 12 exam rooms. The design guidelines included centralizing check-in at 1 desk with 4 windows and making the waiting area seating easier to access, safer to use, and more efficient; capturing waiting/check-in space for the 12 additional rooms; and new signage. KAL incorporated evidenced based design, developing the proposed layouts with input from the end users (doctors, nursing staff), facility management staff (engineers, interior designers), and the KAL design team (architects, engineers, interior designers). Several design charrette sessions were conducted to develop a design that was embraced by all stakeholders. The final design also incorporated sustainable design features for several tasks including recycling of removed materials, selection of furnishings with high recycled material content, electrical fixture specifications, and low-water use plumbing components in the new restroom facilities.
