Q:Are there trim pieces to match this nightfall black native woods shiplap?
      by|Feb 13, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Sandy, At this time matching trim is currently not available. Customers in the past have had great success in trimming down the shiplap board, so essentially cutting off the tongues and grooves, to their desired width of trim.

          Color Way Off!!!
I ordered the Native Woods Whiskey Barrel Dark Brown. The color of the product that arrived was nothing like the pictures! The pictures I added was one from their website and the rest was the actual product that arrived. Good luck....

            Easy to install
These are sturdy planks that can be used for ceiling or wall panels. Since they are 8 ft long, the installation is much faster than the average 4 ft long flooring panels that are used for wall trim. Because these are thick panels the tongue and groove give a sturdy fit. While these are listed as for indoor use, they can be used outdoors in protected areas, like the porch ceilings. If they are used in an area that is exposed to the elements, they have to be protected like any wood product.

            Shiplap, shiplap, shiplap.
We watch a lot of home-renovation shows on TV and shiplap is always the treasure to be discovered. Ironically, we really found it on our second home project-- original shiplap on a 1922 cottage (expanded). Problem was, it was used on the exterior as expected and we wanted it as an accent on an interior wall. This UFP product gives you all the looks of 1922 shiplap, without all the fuss. It arrives six boards per box, carefully wrapped. One side is finished/primed in white and the other is unfinished. As a new wood, there are generally splits in the end of the board, but nothing seen in the middle. The machine hewn boards seems perfect and they fit together nicely. These will be installed during the upcoming winter.

            Beautiful & sturdy shiplap
This shiplap is made from solid wood, I believe it's pine. It is weathered white and ready to go. It cuts well. The tongue and groove & the pieces fit well together to leave the perfect gap to reflect that it's shiplap. If you long for shiplap, this is a great one and the price isn't overwhelming (as of Sept '22). I have only been able to start using the product on my kitchen remodel and won't be able to complete it until after my countertops are installed so I can't show you the finished wall but the starter rows that I put in between the cabinets and future trim around the door are beautiful. Great Siding!
We have an old, stand-alone hot tub room built up against our house. It was originally sided with 1/4-inch CCA plywood. The years have not been good for that plywood. I got some natural colored siding from UFP-Edge, and really like it. I got this UFP-Edge - UFP-Edge 1 in. x 6 in. x 8 ft. Native Woods Gunmetal Dark Gray Shiplap Weathered Barn Wood Boards (6-Pack) to do the third side as an accent color. This siding goes up nice, and nails securely. It should last much longer than that old plywood did. I love the tongue & groove on this siding. It is wide enough that you can leave a reveal, or shove it closer together, depending on your needs. Thanks UFP-Edge, and Home Depot!

This is real shiplap and very easy to install
These UFP native woods shiplap boards are the real deal! No faux wood here. I tried glue up faux tin on my bathroom ceiling. They are quite charming but because some just won’t stick to my popcorn ceiling, I can see sags, and I simply don’t like that so I chose to install these boards on my ceiling in one of my bathrooms that I’m currently remodeling. When I received these boards I was so glad that although they are 6 in. wide by 8 ft long, they are lightweight enough for a one person install. I used a cordless braid nailer, which I hung on the ladder as I put the boards in place. Once you get the first row hung, which you may need help with to get it level, it’s pretty easy after that. The boards fit tightly together, even though there is a gap, which I prefer on a ceiling. Initially I was confused which side was the correct side because the front side shown in the description photos looks natural but the actual boards have noticeable mars, stamped words and discolorations on the natural side. I had to call the company to find out which side faces out. Turns out it’s the side that looks nothing like the photos, but works out even better for me. It’s an off white color. The correct side is smoother and looks more finished. I love the versatility of these boards and you do have to let them acclimate before installation. These boards are end matched and being that this is my first time installing shiplap, I didn’t really know what that means and the included instructions don’t explain it. I enrolled in YouTube University for a few classes and see that it simply means the ends butt up instead of having tongue and grooves. Being that I’ve laid several engineered wood and LVP floors, I prefer tongue and groove. The seams look better. The boards are very easy to cut with a miter saw but I found cutting with the back side up left a cleaner cut and my saw has a newish blade. It’s also important to angle your brad nails, which goes directly into the tongue, called blind nailing. This I found difficult to do because of the tip design of my braid nailer. It simply wouldn’t allow a good angle because the safety tip is so large. I did the best I could then used a nail punch when necessary. This is no fault of the boards but due to my nailer. I think the included instructions could be better written and illustrated. They seem to be written for pros and not for first timers or diy’ers. They could be a lot less complicated and more informative. Ideally, installing these boards would look fantastic if you don’t have to make any cuts and I highly recommend them for that. Otherwise you will see seam gaps, which of course can be improved with wood filler, my best friend. Some boards are warped. Sit those to the side and use for cuts. Because these boards are real wood they mar, splinter, and dent very easily. Do not shoot brad nails in the natural knots. I did and the entire knot punched out leaving a dime size hole in a board I had already installed! These board will install much easier on a non textured ceiling. They have no give and some can be a bit challenging to join however, they are a fantastic product that looks classy and are very simple to install. I chose the native wood color.

            Perfect lumber
If there is such a thing as perfect lumber this is it. I received 36 1x6x8 boards, and every one is perfectly straight, no bowing, no warpage, no twist. The milling of the tongues and grooves is precise. The grooves have a depth stop milled in the to allow each joint to be the same gap. We choose the barn board finish, which is a white wash, however, the unfinished backs look so good we contemplated installing them with unfinished side exposed and varnishing them for a knotty pine look. If your looking for quality tongue and groove lumber this is it.

            Great looking wood
These are really nice tongue and groove boards for an accent wall or any other purpose that you have in mind. They have clean, well defined tongues and grooves that lock together easily. The boards are straight and have a minimum of small smooth knots. The knots give a nice rustic look if you are going to leave them natural or with a clear finish. They are smooth and I am sure that they will take paint very well with a suitable primer.
