The Hewlett-Packard waveguide variable attenuator is handy for testing and for developing prototype equipment for the amateur radio 3cm band (10-10.5 GHz) and for work with equipment for X-band marine radar, 9.3-9.7 GHz and aircraft radar 9.3-9.5 GHz. The attenuator is made from WR90 waveguide covering 8.2-12.4 GHz and permits a signal or source to be attenuated over a 100:1 range with an uncertainty of +/-1 dB. No external power is required. The attenuator is rugged and much more affordable than more precise attenuators. The design is old, but very reliable.
