You can search for the desired files, and transfer them to another connected device through a variety of mechanisms, including drag and drop. The eight available ports help ensure you have the options you need without having to unplug one device to add another, making home networking a breeze. Automatic speed sensing allows you to take advantage of the fastest speeds available without having to change settings. You can enjoy speeds of up to 1000 Mbps with Gigabit Ethernet while maintaining backward compatibility with 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps devices on the network. Dual-color LEDs allow you to monitor the link, speed, and current activity taking place across the Netgear GS608 8 Port Gigabit Desktop Switch. This lets you monitor performance in real time to help maintain maximum performance. The Netgear GS608 8 Port Gigabit Desktop Switch can be laid flat on any suitable surface, including most computer desks. Connect a range of devices including VoIP phones, IP security cameras, wireless access points, and more. The switch supports all of the following standards: IEEE 802.3i, IEEE 802.3u, IEEE 802.3ab, and IEEE 802.1p. Each Netgear GS608 8 Port Gigabit Desktop Switch comes with a power adapter and installation guide, as well as warranty and customer support information on the included card. The device measures 6.2 inches by 4.0 inches by 1.0 inch and weighs only 0.44 pounds. A convenient on/off switch is located on the side, making the device easy to power down or restart as needed while the front-facing power indicator light shows the devices status without having to check the power switch. The port for the power source is distinctly shaped when compare to the available ports, making the connection process simple even when not directly looking at the installation guide.     Great SOHO Switch

    For an inexpensive non-manageable switch, this thing is great. You can't beat the price for a full duplex switch. My router only has four WAN ports. And I have a lot of Ethenet devices that need gigabit connectivity. This works great for home use, but I would recommend a manageable switch for more complicated networking. This works for me, and the price is right!

    GS608 version is important: v3 indicates connection speed, v4 has power on/off switch.

    The GS608 v4 model (new from Amazon July 2019) no longer has light color indicating connection speed, which disappointed me. On the good side, Netgear has added a handy on/off power switch to the v4, which is not a feature of the v3. This v4 data switch works great, but is less informative for management than I was hoping. My older v3 helps me figure out where the communication bottlenecks are in my network by indicating 1000 speed with green lights, 100/10 with yellow. Either version starts working right away without fuss, when connected and powered up.
