She was a proud graduate of Cass Technical HS in Detroit. After high school she attended Highland Park Junior College, where she met her husband.
In 1968, she and her husband began raising and showing Boxer dogs. They had four homegrown champions. For over 50 years she was very active in the Michigan Boxer Club.

Choir singing was another love of hers. She sang in the choir at every church she attended, beginning with the children's choir at Monteith Presbyterian Church in Detroit. She was a member of the BeckRidge Chorale and was proud to be one of very few women who sang in the tenor section.
