Greece Historical Society and Museum, 595 Long Pond Road, will transform to a community park of sorts at the annual Strawberry and Dessert Tasting Festival from 4 to 7 p.m. June 20.

Billed as the summer’s “best community picnic,” the event will feature fresh strawberry shortcake and a wide array of dessert tastings provided by area establishments. Desserts featuring local berries crafted into everything from strawberry soup to strawberry salad and strawberry-topped brownies will be provided this year by Tim Horton’s, Long Pond Family Restaurant, Tops Market, Legacy at Park Crescent, The Villages at Unity, Cinelli's Ristorante and Popcorn Plus. Grilled foods for purchase will be available from local grilling experts Barton’s Parkside Hots.

Entertainment will include Flyin’ Brian and Miss Understood, a local couple that combines music; games and balloon-making; music by Jeremy Carter; door prizes; and a Chinese auction.

The Historical Society’s Strawberry Festival started in 1974 when members turned their June meeting into a strawberry social and invited everyone in the community to join. Festivities were held on the grounds of the Newcomb House on Newcomb Road. When the Historical Society offices and museum were relocated from English Road to its current location on Long Pond Road, the strawberry fest moved to the new site and became a fundraiser to help defray the costs of the move and renovating the new facility, a home once occupied by former Town Supervisor Gordon Howe and his family.

On the night of the festival, guests will be able to tour the museum and view the new “Hometown Sports of Greece” exhibit. On the grounds, attendees can visit various booths set up by community organizations with information to share about services and opportunities they have to offer.

Tickets are $6 for general admission, $3 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and younger. Free parking is available on the Museum grounds and Greece Town Hall. For more information, call 585-225-7221 or visit greecehistoricalsociety.net.
