When the PS5 was released in November 2020, many began to ponder the curious decision to release two separate models: one with a disc drive and one without. Three years later, Sony has released yet another new model for the PS5, with the most noticeable difference being a more 'slim' appearance to the console. It will be named the PS5 Slim and is planned to be released in November 2023, similar to its predecessor.

Naturally, Sony wouldn't release a new model of their console if it didn't include some other changes. For one, the storage capacity will increase, with a 1TB SSD installed into the console. The PS5 Slim will be available both with and without the Blu-ray disc drive, like the original model before it. The digital download-only PS5 Slim will be sold at around $449.99, while the console that includes the drive will be sold at around $499.99.

Curiously enough, Sony also intends to sell the disc drive on its own, pricing at approximately $79.99. That way, if you decide to buy the digital download-only PS5, you can still use compatible discs (if you're willing to dish out the extra dough, of course) This harkens back to the Sega CD, in which one could attach a separate 'console' to the parent console.

If one add-on isn't enough, Sony intends to release two different kinds of console stands. A horizontal stand will be included with the PS5 Slim, though a vertical stand (compatible with all PS5 models) will also be available for around $29.99.
