Jackie Young will join USA 3x3 women's basketball team for Tokyo Olympics

And now Jackie Young can add yet another line to her masterful basketball résumé: United States Olympian.

The Princeton, Indiana, native and former Notre Dame standout will join the U.S. Olympic 3x3 Women’s Basketball Team for the Tokyo Olympic Games, USA Basketball announced Monday. She is replacing Katie Lou Samuelson, who was placed under health and safety protocols this weekend and is unable to participate.

Young will compete alongside Stefanie Dolson (Chicago Sky/Connecticut), Allisha Gray (Dallas Wings/South Carolina) and WNBA teammate Kelsey Plum (Las Vegas Aces/Washington).

In its first Olympic showing, 3x3 basketball will feature eight women’s teams competing at Aomi Urban Sports Park from July 24-28. 

Young previously played on a USA Basketball 3x3 national team at the 2019 World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar, where the USA went 3-1. She also participated in the 2020 USA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Team training camp in February 2020 in Chicago, and she attended trials for the 2017 USA U23 National Team and the 2014 USA U17 World Cup Team.

Young has started in 21 games this season for the Las Vegas Aces and is averaging 12.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.2 steals.
