HAVE A ‘HAPPY DAY’ AT OPTIMIST HALL

Head over to Optimist Hall to celebrate their second birthday and help kids in our community on Sunday, August 1 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Enjoy a full day of activities including a bounce house, lawn games, live music, and face painting, plus food and drinks from Optimist Hall’s food stalls, restaurants, and bars. The building will have donation bins for Classroom Central, so bring back-to-school supplies to help local children in need. Anyone who donates will be entered to win an Optimist Hall Happy Day gift basket. optimisthall.com

CATCH A SUMMER FLICK AT THE DRIVE-IN

Pile into the car and head to Charlotte Motor Speedway on August 11 to watch “The Greatest Showman” on a 16,000-square foot HDTV screen. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the movie starts at 7 p.m. The cost is $30 per car, and up to 10 people (with safety belts) can be in a vehicle. Donate a canned good to benefit Speedway Children’s Charities and get a free pace car ride before the show. Purchase tickets in advance to guarantee a space. charlottemotorspeedway.com

EAT BREAKFAST FOR DESSERT

You know what’s better than a bowl of Fruity Pebbles or Cap’N Crunch on a Saturday morning? A milkshake laced with sugary cereal on a hot afternoon. Stop by Day and Night Exotic Cereal Bar in Latta Arcade and treat the kids (and yourself) to a Marty McFly with Apple Jacks, Fruit Loops, and gummy bears, or a Liquid Gold with peanut butter crunch, Honey Clover Lucky Charms, cookie butter, and banana. You can also order hot coffee, cold brew, or—if you want a good sugar buzz—a Cinnamon Toast Iced Latte. 127 Brevard Ct. dayandnightcereal.com
