CHESAPEAKE CITY — Despite having the home crowd on their side for just the second time this season, Bohemia Manor’s slow start on Friday night was too large for the Eagles to overcome, suffering their second loss of the season in a 27-7 defeat at the hands of the C. Milton Wright.
Bohemia Manor trailed for almost the entirety of Friday’s contest and failed to get on the scoreboard for the first three and a half quarters of play. The Eagles trailed by 19 at the break and by as much as 27 in the second half.
Despite their struggles on both sides of the ball, Bohemia Manor head coach Vince Ricci hopes that his team can look more at the positive takeaways from Friday’s game moving forward.
“We can’t really dwell on too many of the negatives,” Ricci said. “We played them close in the second half, we just started slow in the first half.”
The Eagles dug themselves in a 6-0 hole 90 seconds into the game on a muffed punt that resulted in a C. Milton Wright fumble recovery for a touchdown.
C. Milton Wright extended their lead just six minutes later when Jaxon Simms ran it in from four yards out to make it a 13-0 game. Brewer Fullwood and Kyle Frank both added scores for the Mustangs later on to eventually grow their lead to 27-0 in the second half.
C. Milton Wright head coach Lawerence Ashman was proud of how his team executed against a Bo Manor team that beat the Mustangs 6-0 in their last meeting a year ago.
“We came in and did what we wanted to do after looking at film,” Ashman said. “We hit it home all week long that we were going to come out this week and play hard just like they did when they beat us last year.”
C. Milton Wright has now won back-to-back games since their loss at Elkton two weeks ago when they lost in the final two minutes after giving up a 14-point lead. Ashman believes that the Elkton loss was a turning point for his team.
“After the Elkton loss, we felt we just weren’t finishing games,” Ashman said. “Before that, we lost to Chesapeake of Anne Arundel County in the same situation where we couldn’t finish. But that was our drive and basically the start of our run was that we were going to finish games.”
Chris Harris found Nate Fleming from five yards out for the lone Bo Manor score with 6:35 to play in the game.
The Eagles defense held C. Milton Wright to just eight points in the second half. Ricci sees his defense’s second half execution as a growing point as the Eagles (4-2) head into their homecoming game against Havre De Grace (2-4) on Friday.
{p dir=”ltr”}{span}ways good to see your kids go out there and execute those adjustments,” Ricci said. “It’s also good as coaches to just say ‘hey maybe some of those adjustments worked and we can work on some of those things that were good.’”
