June is Pride Month, and at Bramble Berry we believe that everyone should love who they love, without fear or reservation.
In order to celebrate Pride, we invited some of our makers who are also members of the LGBTQIA community to contribute some of their thoughts about Pride.
Zac from RainBro Crafts
Zac talks about the importance of being visibly out during Pride.
"Pride isn't just about the month of June. It's choosing to be out, proud and unabashedly queer on a daily basis. At RainBro Crafts we choose to incorporate our queerness into our brand to show that openly queer people can be successful, joyful, proud business owners and members of the community. We encourage our allies and fellow LGBTQIA individuals to support queer-owned businesses not just during the month of June, but year around."

For Nathan, Pride is an opportunity to reflect on the history of the LGBTQIA community.
“Every year for Pride, I like to dive deep into the history of my community. Learning about the struggles and triumphs of those who came before me really helps me to appreciate how far we have come and how far we still have to go.”

Chad from Bittersweet Soap Works
Chad reminded us how important it is to support the LGBTQIA community not just during Pride, but every day of every month.
“Supporting the LGBTQIA+ community is important not only during Pride Month, but every day of the year. Here are some great ways to show support:
- Educate yourself: Take the time to learn about different sexual orientations, gender identities, and the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. Read books, watch documentaries, and seek out reputable online resources to expand your knowledge and understanding.
- Be an ally: Actively support and stand up for the rights and dignity of LGBTQIA+ individuals. Speak out against discrimination, prejudice, and homophobic/transphobic remarks or actions. Use your privilege to amplify their voices and experiences.
- Listen and validate: Create a safe and supportive environment by listening to the stories, experiences, and concerns of LGBTQIA+ individuals. Validate their feelings and respect their identities without judgment.
- Use inclusive language: Be mindful of the language you use and strive to be inclusive. Use gender-neutral pronouns when appropriate, and respect people's chosen names and identities. Avoid making assumptions about someone's sexual orientation or gender identity.
- Support LGBTQIA+-owned businesses and organizations: Seek out and support businesses, nonprofits, and organizations that are owned or operated by LGBTQIA+ individuals. Attend LGBTQIA+ events, performances, and exhibitions to show your support and celebrate their contributions.
- Donate to LGBTQIA+ causes: Consider donating to organizations that work to support LGBTQIA+ rights, provide resources, and offer services to the community. Research and choose reputable organizations that align with your values.
- Vote for LGBTQIA+ rights: Stay informed about political candidates and initiatives that impact the LGBTQIA+ community. Vote for candidates who support equality, inclusivity, and the rights of all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
- Foster inclusive spaces: Whether it's in your workplace, school, or social circles, actively work to create inclusive spaces where LGBTQIA+ individuals feel safe, respected, and valued. Encourage diversity and challenge discriminatory behavior when you witness it.
- Attend Pride events: Participate in Pride Month events, parades, and celebrations to show your solidarity and support. Pride events are important occasions for the LGBTQIA+ community, and your presence can make a positive impact.
- Be an advocate: Share information and resources with friends, family, and colleagues to promote understanding and awareness about LGBTQIA+ issues. Engage in discussions, challenge misconceptions, and help spread accurate information.
Remember, supporting the LGBTQIA+ community is an ongoing commitment. By taking these actions and continuously educating yourself, you can make a difference and contribute to a more inclusive and accepting society.”

Giving back to the LGBTQIA community
During the month of June, we’re giving $1 from the purchase of any of our beautiful colorants to the Trevor Project.
The Trevor Project is a non profit organization that works to end suicide among the LGBTQIA community. They do this by offering in-person support by phone, web, or text message. They are also creating online spaces where LGBTQIA youth can socialize. They’re also involved in research, education, and advocacy for the LGBTQIA community in general.
Statistics show that LGBTQIA youth are more than 4 times more likely to attempt suicide than their peers. Interacting with one accepting adult can reduce that risk by as much as 40%.
