Velotric Nomad 1

That lower price tag comes with a few drawbacks for sure, especially when it comes to the functionality on the included screen, but if you’ve been looking for a starter e-bike, you can have a lot of fun with this solid option.

The Velotric Nomad is a great e-bike for the winter months, as it can handle snow and mud with ease. However, its size and weight make it less suited for off-roading than the Aventon Aventure 2.

The Velotric Nomad 1 features a powerful motor, a lasting battery, a comfortable ride, and can take its rider through just about any environment. It rivals other fat tire e-bikes and provides excellent value for its price point, all while presenting itself in style.

I have come to a 14.2° hill… Velotric claims that this bike can go up a 15° slope effortlessly… we’re losing power, I’m having to pedal, and… stalled. It has nothing left to give. Velotric clarified that the hill should be 15% NOT 15°. Their website has been updated to show 8°.

The bike is powerful… It’s very punchy. Because I live in the city and I don’t do much trails, I like the Discovery 1 more. It’s more polished, feels more premium, it’s thinner, nimbler, faster, more convenient for the city.

Overall, the Velotric Nomad 1 is well suited for those looking for some adventure. That 20 mph top speed can be unlocked to 25 mph after receiving an unlock code from Velotric.

This is a beautiful, beautiful bike. The fact that it has hydraulic brakes, and that eight-speed shifter to avoid the ghost pedaling… to me, that’s huge, and it’s less expensive than competing bikes.

I definitely recommend buying this bike. The riding position is ideal for taking the bumps. My arms aren’t too stressed y’all. I’m not leaning forward with my back. Very nice.

It’s kind of become the status symbol for e-bike bro dudes, “I got the Fat Tire Bike because it makes me look kind of tough”…it does make me feel kind of tough. The fat tires have been impressing in ways that I really wasn’t expecting.

Overall, it’s definitely been a nice ride during my testing and this is definitely a good choice for those that are seeking a fat tire e-bike with a good range.

This bike gives you the perfect level of pedal assist where you still feel like you’re getting a workout. What I also like about this bike is the battery life. I went on a 40-minute, 10-mile bike ride and I still had all my battery bars.

We all know how this thing performs now so I would say that if you’re looking for an all-terrain type bike that you can cruise around on, this is a great one for it, and at that price point that also makes it a great value.

The bike is aesthetically pleasing and comes in colors we have never seen on an e-bike. The hydraulic suspension is higher quality than bikes in this class. Overall, you can’t find a much better fat tire e-bike that you can use year-round, rain or shine, at this price point.

These fat tires, they grip well in the sand on the concrete. You know, skinnier tire bikes, you got to be really careful out here about sliding out.

This bike does have 26”×4” fat tires and the tread makes them just OK for a little light off-roading in the city where maybe you just need to go off into some grass or something but because it only has the front suspension it’s just OK for the city with this type of setup.

This is really a very versatile bike. It’ll allow you to go on-road and off-road but has a lot of power for those of you who are kind of power-hungry but yet it also has this good range.

A lot of power in this thing, very generous battery. You’re going to get 50 to 55 miles out of a full charge.

It does have a good little pickup to it. It’s not super-subtle like some of the other e-bikes that we’ve tested here.

Whereas I’m pretty disappointed to see they didn’t supply cruise control, the list of positives about this bike far outweigh anything negative. One of the best fat tire e-bikes I have tested so far. It might even be the best electric fat bike in its price range.

Before you jump this bike or any brand new e-bike that you get, guys, always always check your nuts. We’re hitting this at full speed, 20mph. Oh yeah!

The cells inside the battery, they’re calling them ‘Tesla-grade’, 21700 size. These are larger cells and they’re made by LG or Samsung. Most other e-bikes come with smaller 18650 cells so these are probably going to have more longevity and can handle the load over a longer period of time.

The one thing that might be harder for you is picking it up, if you have to load it in a truck, because it is a little bit heavier but the ride quality is still super smooth with it, and I feel like it’s even more accommodating for bigger riders.

Who do I recommend this for? Definitely all ages: old, young, if you’re wanting a hybrid commuter/trail bike. This thing is definitely not meant to do the trails that I did today but as you saw, it did just fine.

Q. “Would you consider this the only fat tire bike that you would consider?”
A. “Yeah actually, because of the height. Obviously, that’s very important to me.”

I had so much fun putting the Velotric Nomad 1 through its paces on some of my favorite trails around here and especially the skills course, because I feel like that’s a good representation of what this bike is capable of.

I have not ridden a bike in about a year and this bike just rode really smoothly. I love just how sturdy it is. I love the color. I just love everything about it and I can’t wait to ride it with the motor when I get a little more practice with riding.

I feel like for what you’re getting, this is actually a very good deal. Like I said; quality materials, it’s quite fast, everything’s built well, sturdy.

Can I ride this without any pedal-assist, is that even possible? Yes, it’s actually possible and it’s really easy, feels easy, even though this looks like a big bike.

The throttle tends to be quite aggressive and isn’t really that smooth. It can be very easy to press too hard and cause the bike to accelerate a little bit more quickly than you’d like. This might not make it an ideal choice for more technical trails and riding.

The bike has front and rear fenders which do a phenomenal job of preventing you from getting wet if you ride into any puddles.

This is a very pleasant thing to ride around the suburbs. I get this warm, happy, carefree feeling, kind of like I’m in an antidepressant commercial. If you’re looking into buying one of these, do it. It’s a nice price.

This thing is solid man. There’s no squeaks, there’s no rattles. That’s a really good quality bike, especially for ████ bucks. I mean, wow! You can’t beat that!

You can definitely expect at least a 40-mile range, by my calculations. That’s really good, that’s a solid number. I usually shoot for 30 miles. That’s the industry standard but I’m seeing 40 miles out of these Velotrics.

You’re adventurous, you want to be outside, you want an e-bike that can kind-of do a little of it all. I really recommend at least checking out this Nomad.

It was an uneventful, easy cruise averaging about 20mph most of the way. When we had arrived at our starting point we had used about half of our battery capacity and covered 25 miles.

It’s more of an upright seating position. You’re not like all hunched over like a race bike or something. To me, this is a very comfortable seating position. It feels a little bit like a beach cruiser. It’s very comfortable to ride.

Do note that I’ve been riding around out here all day in the Pacific Northwest – beautiful snow – and it is possible due to those 26” fatboy tires there. An absolute breeze, trail-riding off-road through the snow.

Let’s see if we can make this jump. I think we could do it without getting hurt. Let’s see… Oh, that was sick, that was sick!

The gearing on this thing is not all that wide so you’re not going to be able to climb a telephone pole with this kind of a gearing. Your big huge gear in the back, it’s not terribly tall and in the bottom, I’m pretty sure you’re rocking… is that an 11 or 14?

For me it’s really nice, really smooth, really don’t have that many complaints about it.

The Nomad 1 is a great alternative for a lot of people looking to get an e-bike and use it for all sorts of different things. The fat tire design makes it really comfortable for riding, super comfortable. 87° straight-back posture design.

It’s dropping to 5 mph. We’re at 54.5 miles and looks like it is dead. I, myself, love the fact that it’s a step-through.

I have to tell you, as I’m going up the hill this bike has a lot of power and it’s making it super-easy and smooth to make it up the hill.

The build quality was amazing. The quality seems top-notch. I was like, “I kind of want a road bike because I live in a city”, but after experiencing it I’m like, “This is more of an all-purpose outdoor adventure bike, ready for any situation.”

There’s no mistake with this bike. I know when it’s in [pedal assist level] 1 it’s both gentle in the pedal assist and in the throttle. You just kind of take off nice and easy.

The Nomad 1 is a more powerful hill climber.

Ain’t been able to ride a bike in over 40 years because of my weight. I’m 365 lb right now. 440 lb max load on the bike. I just rode a bike like I did when I was a kid again. I’m ecstatic.

I test all my e-bikes on a long, steep, straight uphill stretch of road… The Nomad took the Hill of Doom test in stride. It sailed right up with little to no effort on my part…

I suspect this is going to make a wonderful winter commuter. I’m quickly falling in love with this bike as more snowstorms threaten through the winter months. It’s comfortable and powerful, and it seems designed for nasty weather.

The Velotric Nomad 1 rolls over everything in its path. The motor easily handles gradients up to 15°. Oversized 26”x4” fat tires offer plenty of grip without being overkill, meaning the rubber still rolls efficiently over smoother surfaces.

The Velotric Nomad 1 is a very well-built e-bike and it’s head-turning good looking. The components are very good quality and the ride is comfortable. It should provide riders with years of grin-making, superfun rides at a price far less than some pay for quality this good.

Like its predecessor, this model flies forward when you hit the throttle or when you use the electric assist and manually pedal. Acceleration is whisper quiet, fast, and smooth. Gears manually shift with ease. And braking is nice, crisp, and smooth.

The ergonomic ride comfort, powerful motor and that IPX rating makes the Nomad 1 a top choice when looking for a fat tire adventure e-bike that can go just about anywhere and in any weather condition.
