HP - Pavilion Desktop / Intel® Core™ i7 Processor / 10GB Memory / 1.5TB Hard Drive

After living with this computer for a month, having uninstalled the few trial apps that came preinstalled, and having resolved one lone issue with the assistance of an excellent phone support tech, I'm very pleased and positive about this computer. PROS: With an Intel i7 processor and 10 gig of RAM I have been unable to red line either processor function, which hasn't exceeded 3% with several apps open, or memory usage which runs in the 25% to 30% range. Graphics processing doesn't make the computer even breath hard. I look forward to some high speed video rendering when I get some home video transferred. Beat audio produces excellent sound, the built in wireless adapter is a real convenience that saves a USB port for other peripherals, and the TV tuner will be a treat when I have a chance to use it; it needs a cable or satellite service converter box. The 1.5 terabyte hard drive is massive; not even all my photos make much of a dent. Overall, this computer will do just about anything I can imagine needing it to do. CONS: When first fired up, the front USB connectors were dead. With the assistance of technical support I needed to open the case, reconnect those ports to the mother board, and reinstall the drivers. This appears to be a known problem at HP. While not difficult, getting those mother board connections made was complicated by tight space constraints. One PCI slot may not be usable because another device overhangs the space over the PCI slot. While the computer comes equipped with nice wireless keyboard and mouse, IT DOESN'T COME WITH SPEAKERS! Beat audio and no speakers! Inconceivable. To get the benefit of the excellent sound capabilities of this computer you'll want decent aftermarket speakers with sub-woofer. Mine ran about $50 but less expensive and more expensive speakers are easy to find. Don't skimp if you use a computer to listen to or process music. My one complaint about the media center features is that there is no provision for installation of a cable card for direct access to cable or satellite services without the need for a converter box. SUMMARY: I'm very pleased with this computer. While HP could have thought out some of the smaller details a little better, this promises to be the best computer value I've experienced.

So far I have had no problems. I waited on this computer to come back in stock from where it was sold out online the first time it was available. Its has an Intel I7 core 3.4 processor with Turbo boost up to 3.8. It has a BlueRay player and Lightscribe!!! It is one of the few HP's with a Nividia Graphics card 1GB that also has a Intel processor. It was one of the only ones I saw with the New 3.0 USB's plus another 6 USB's 2.0 a total of 8 USB. It has a TV tuner &10GB of DDR3 memory, & 1.5TB hard drive. Wireless Optical Mouse!!!, Wireless Keyboard. Media Center Remote. Great sound card featuring The bEAT. Great wireless network card plus a lan card 1/100 1/1000 Put it with the HP LED 2511x Monitor and u wont have to buy a new computer for quite awhile.

I recieved this computer as a Christmas gift. I quickly set it up just to realize that it's a DOA. I fix and manage servers and computers in the military. I am sure that the workstation not working is no fault of my own. The computer would be decent if it worked, of course. Also if the hard was 7200 rpm instead of 5400 rpm. At this price point I didn't think they would skimp on that. All in all I am really disappointed that the computer failed to perfom upon arrival. I will contact Best Buy and Hp to weigh my options on a remedy to this unfortunate situation when they open tomorrow. On the plus side my HP 25in lcd monitor works, shrug.

Super fast, lots of USB ports, automatically downloads device drivers as soon as device is plugged in, software has a lot of features.

The hard disk on this PC crashed the very first day. I had to return it. Never buying another HP product again from Best Buy.
