Q7 3.0tdi BUG very late mostly on hot weather
Hi everyone, first post here.
I bought a Q7 about an year ago, is a 2008 with a 3.0TDI BUG with 194000km. It was not in very good shape, little by little have been bringing back alive. the dash had many lights on.
I've solve most of the engine issues (oil, air and coolant leaks, has new oil cooler, egr cleaned, new flap motor for 1 bank, and fixed wiring for the other, new battery, alternator, thermostat). The car when accelerated from low rpm sometimes goes into limp mode ( my obd11 says overboost), but that's for another post.
My main issue is that it is hard to start, and the weird thing is that when its cold outside near 0-5 deg Celsius and around 5AM, it starts quite "fast", usually at first crank, maybe 2-3, a bit of white some while the car reaches 90deg. But cold start during the day is hard with sun or outside temps near 15-20 deg, can need even 7-8 cranks, and on some occasions have to wire to my other car. A lot of white smoke from unburned Diesel. After first start, no problem during the day, the engine work smooth. I live at 2600-2900m above sea level. For this, I had my glow plugs checked, they said they were fine, changed the glow plugs relay, checked wiring, still same. They said that something about my ecu has to be replaced, hardware, but I don't want to touch the ECU.
Seems to cold start way better when cold outside, like if the car is actually using the glow plugs more when cold.
What do you think I should check? I've tried to adapt engine group 12 and change timing for glow plugs but no success with security login so far (what's the security code by the way for a 3/0tdi bug, 12233 doesn't seem to work)
My injectors are not so good, 2 of them doesn't look good on obd11, and the car smoke a bit before getting to 90deg. 'But no vibrations, engines is very very smooth. And no engine codes.

From my own experience with OBD-Eleven VAGCOM @ their Pro subscribed/access level, I can say I loved it for general scanning and some of the quick program mods it offered on my Q7...seems very good for hobbyists/dabblers, but for actual troubleshooting and repairs of my TDI, it was telling me to buy new control modules and not really helping me fix anything. I ended up getting the Ross-Tech VCDS VAGCOM, which is much better, IMHO, for doing the actual diagnostics and repairs work, and was able to resolve my car's issues pretty easily at that point.
That said, the things you should pay careful attention to are the fuel balance between the injectors, the speed of engine crank over at cold start in various temperatures, and how quickly the glow-plug cycle completes during start-up, etc. As you haven't posted a VAGCOM scan of your car, it's difficult to help you assess the issue without data. Leaky or clogged injectors can create problems, so can a dirty air filter or MAF sensor on the air intake. Post up a current full scan from the car is best way to get some help with technical issues.

seem about right, going to try tomorrow again, why, because, seem weirdly good, look at the injectors like a month ago:
That was before fixing a lot of things, including the flaps, wiring, this one of the injectors from 1 bank was way off (value3), and sometimes value1. But now, Iīm surprised a lot better.
Took a quick video this morning after 1h15min trip, and the car start quite fast and engine runs very smooth (

Forgot to mention, I donīt have the key with control, only the emergency key, so each time I have to put key in door to open car and quickly open switch before alarm goes off. I started the video with the switch on. In case you are wondering, if I turn it off and then on, or first time on, the glow plug light come on for about a sec and then off.

Your car def has some electrical gremlins going on...door handle parasitic battery drains, etc., and multiple codes related to either low voltage sensed....energy management active in BEM system module/19, as well as high voltage error codes from overcharging sensed, etc. I get that one sometimes if I leave my automated charger on car at it's 'high' setting rather than use a trickle charge setting/lower volts, etc.
Best advice is pick an outlier to work on...door handle remediation/unplugging at base of the handle inside door card costs you nothing. It's likely you'll find the injector seals and o-rings, and quite possibly at least some injectors will need replacing if the tips have swollen or otherwise mishapen, as that indicates they are going to fail, and leaked fuel in cylinders will kill your engine...not something you want.
