Product Description
This USB-C to DVI adapter lets you connect a USB-C laptop, such as an Ultrabook or MacBook Pro, to a DVI display. The video adapter features USB Power Delivery, which enables you to power and charge your laptop while you're outputting video to a DVI display. USB Type-C is a universal connectivity standard that combines all of your essential functions into one dynamic port. This adapter works with USB-C devices that pass a DisplayPort video signal, such as the latest MacBook or Windows laptops. It's also compatible with Thunderbolt 3 ports. Charge your device at the same time Unlike some video adapters that use up one of your laptop’s USB-C ports to output video, this video adapter offers an additional USB-C charge port that supports USB Power Delivery up to 60 watts. This means you can charge your laptop and output video using the same laptop port, by simply connecting the laptop’s power adapter to the additional USB-C port on the adapter. It’s the perfect solution for laptops that have only a limited number of USB-C ports. Take it with you This USB Type-C video adapter maximizes portability with a lightweight, small-footprint design. It’s the perfect accessory to carry with your device, fitting easily into your laptop bag or carrying case. Its ultra-portable design makes this adapter perfect for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) applications at the office. Connect quickly This adapter lets you utilize the versatile USB Type-C port on your portable device. USB Type-C is a reversible connector, so no matter how you plug it in, the adapter will always connect. This saves you the hassle and embarrassment of struggling with your device when you're trying to deliver a presentation or sharing information. The CDP2DVIUCP is backed by a 3-year StarTech..

At first I could not get the adapter to work, but that was my fault. I plugged the adapter into a port on the front of my Mac studio - it needs to be plugged into a thunderbolt port on the BACK of the Mac studio. That advice came from someone on the apple community page.
It still wasn't working, so I called startech support. It is one of the BEST tech support experiences I have ever had. The tech was not a Mac guy, but he still asked the correct questions and worked with me to resolve the issue.
I can happily say that now I have dual monitors - one hdmi and one ACD and both are working as they should.
As mentioned, and probably as some of you M1 users have also done - I have tried a TON of various types of adapters to get the display signial OUT of my Mac Mini M1 and INTO my ACD with little/no luck. Even when other adapters said they supported DVI-D dual, active, etc...they didn't work.
THIS ADAPTER WAS THE GAME CHANGER. If you have a new M1 based Mac and want to power an older, large Apple Cinema Display like mine, this is *exactly* the adapter you need. And actually, with trial/error of numerous adapters available, plus reading endless amounts of reviews from other users with the same problem and the same failed results - I got this adapter and recommended it on a few Mac forums to others that tried it and said it worked, finally.
I honestly think that this may be the only adapter available that works for this setup. The 30" ACD must be a different enough that it requires a specialty adapter (this one). I haven't found a single mention, anywhere, from someone who has gotten their 30" ACD to work without using this exact adapter.
Sorry to be repetitive, I just want to make it clear and hopefully easy for others that are stuck with the decision to buy an entire new monitor (which would be expensive to replace the 30" height with current monitors on the market - newer monitors are much wider, but not very tall unless big bucks are spent) vs using or just trying this adapter to see if it'll work - go for it. It will very-likely work!
Yes, I'm getting the full native monitor refresh rate and FULL resolution, it is *not* knocked down to anything lower (unless of course, you want to - which you can definitely do, this also supports lower resolutions) - So yes, I'm getting the full 2560x1600 resolution out of this plugged directly into my Mac Mini M1's Thunderbolt 4 (so, TB 3) port or even into my dock's TB port, which is then plugged into my Mac.
Yes, it's more expensive than so-many other "sounding/looking" adapters, but in reality it isn't comparable to those. Those just don't work to power up to this resolution (2560 x 1600).
All in all, you likely know if you need this. If you do, I'd absolutely recommend it without hesitation.
However, a 30" Apple Cinema Display uses a DVI-I interface, not something that's available on modern computers. That, and because it uses the digital aspect of the interface, an adapter must be powered to work properly.
These DVI-I adapters did the trick perfectly! While my M2 Mac Mini only has two Thunderbolt4/USB-C ports, I utilized an OWC external drive enclosure with a Thunderbolt4/USB-C hub. One ACD is plugged into the M2 Mac Mini and the second the OWC hub.
The setup works great! I now have my up-to-date system and get to keep my "wall 'o' video"! I highly recommend!
