I didn't realize that Apple had switched to an extremely fragile charging cable "featuring" the Lightning connector. He broke it the first day & the nice lady at the T-Mobile store told me I could drive an hour & 15 minutes to the nearest Apple store & they would exchange it under warranty. I did manage to get her to swap the cable with one in a phone that a customer had returned, unused. I missed the clue that I should have immediately returned the phone at that point. Being a big eBay fan, I bought a 5 pack of cables & chargers from Hong Kong. Destructro killed the 2nd T-Mobile cable, the 5 pack, and told me that his buddy had an indestructible cable, a Belkin F8J023bt04-BLK, and I bought him one. It lasted almost a month, much better than the Apple cable & he's currently on his third Belkin cable.
All of these cables apparently have extremely tiny wires in the cable & they eventually break where they enter the Lightning connector from normal flexing. Great design Apple.
Anyway, I had a pile of leftover micro USB cables from a blackberry cell phone & I noticed Apple made a Lightning to micro USB adapter. I said to myself, "Self it doesn't have any extremely tiny wires to flex & break!" This thing works & Destructro has yet to break one. It is tiny tho & he has managed to lose one...
This Belkin cable gets 5 stars for performing far better than the original Apple cable.
- short (6" or less)
- MFi certified (since Apple has been cracking down on and preventing full functionality with unlicensed cables starting with iOS 7)
- preferably black in color, and most importantly...
- could fit through the official Apple iPhone 5s case.
I'm happy to report that this cable meets all of those criteria. I can't comment on its long-term durability yet but it feels sturdy enough for repeated, daily use. My phone didn't display any errors upon connection, and the Lightning end is indeed reversible unlike some cheaper third-party cables. The cable fits the official Apple case more comfortably than even I expected (after estimating with another reviewer's measurements of this product), but I imagine some other larger cases may be less permissive. Also -- and this may matter less to you if you're not as nit-picky as me about aesthetics -- but the black, plastic ends of the cable seem smaller than they appear on the generic product page. The Belkin logo also does not seem as deeply engraved into the Lightning end as it appears on the product page and is surprisingly quite tastefully done when seen in person, in my opinion.
The only downside, as many others have mentioned, is the price of the cable. At a similar price point as the Apple-brand cables, the larger sizes are certainly tougher of a sell. However, this appears to be the only cable on the market currently that matches all of criteria I mentioned above, so I had less of a problem paying this premium for what amounts to a cable marketed at a particular niche.
In short, I highly recommend this cable if you're also looking for a well-made, short, fully functional and Apple-certified cable!

The bad.. the ends have separated in two of the cables and literally come out of the cable and remained in the iPhone. 3rd cable failed. Last cable, 4th (if your counting with me), is mostly not working. I do not see a good way to get warranty support from Belkin. Huge fail! I expect better from Belkin. Very disappointed.
Update: Belkin contacted me via comment to this review. I emailed BelkinCares@belkin.com photo of cables and receipts to email suggested in comment. Spoke with Belkin support (they called me). Support suggested current cables work better and sent replacements. Received 4 new cables. So far, so good - new cables all working well. Upping to 4 stars - all products can have issues.. support makes big difference.
