The adapter felt a bit too lightweight and it didn't do anything. I have a zbook g3 and a usb c dock g5 and needed an adapter to be able to power the laptop from the dock rather than thru the charger. Nothing worked with/without additional cables and all combinations I could think of.

Dieser Splitter hat einen spezifischen Anwendungsfall. Viele Kaufen ihn, verwenden ihn für einen anderen Zweck und beschweren sich, dass er nicht funktioniert.
Um das mal klar zu stellen hier eine ausführliche Beschreibung wie man ihn verwendet.
Ich habe ein "HP Pavilion 15-p209ng" das verfügt keinen USB-C Anschluss.
Außerdem habe ich den "HP USB-C Universal Dock" den man mit USB-C am Laptop anschließt.
An dem Dock habe ich Maus, Tastatur, 2 Monitore (1920*1080p @60hz), ein Lan-Kabel und das Netzteil des Docks angeschlossen.
Mit allen Laptops die USB-C haben funktioniert das Setup einwandfrei. Hier ist es wichtig anzumerken, dass in dem Dock ein Grafik-Chip verbaut ist. Dieser macht es möglich (mit der Software Display link, die möglicher weise installiert werden muss) einen Monitor über einen USB-A oder USB-C Port, der normaler weise kein Videosignal ausgeben kann, zu betreiben. Die meisten USB-C Docks die so einen Chip haben kosten 100€ aufwärts, die billigen für 40€ können das nicht. Zudem braucht der Dock eine Strom Versorgung, damit der Chip richtig laufen kann.
Zurück zu meinem Setup, da mein Laptop kein USB-C hat habe ich zunächst einen einfachen Adapter (usb c female -> usb A male) verwendet und festgestellt, dass mein Setup so funktioniert.
Da fand ich es nur blöde, dass ich den Strom aus dem USB-C Kabel nicht nutzen kann um das Laptop zu laden. Mit diesem Adapter hat sich das Problem sehr gut gelöst. Er macht genau was er soll:
USB-C -> USB-A + 4.5mm DC

Also bitte informiert euch vor dem Kauf, ob euer Dock so etwas wie Displaylink unterstützt
und das laden ist natürlich nur möglich wenn der Dock an einer ausreichenden Stromquelle angeschlossen ist und genug Leistung ausgibt.
Kleiner Tipp: USB-C Hubs können im normal fall nur die Displayport though USB-C oder Thunderbolt daten hinsichtlich der Monitor Übertragung auswerten. Beide Standards werden nicht über USB-A ausgegeben, wodurch in diesem Fall der Splitter keine Anwendung findet.

Trotzdem finde ich die Verarbeitung der Stecker ist nicht 21€ wert.
Zudem hat mein Laptop, da es ein älteres Modell ist, den Ladeanschluss und die USB 3.0 Ports links, wodurch die Kabel des Splitters nicht besonders schön liegen und angeschlossen sind.

Bitte kauft diesen Müll nicht. Nach stundenlangem Ärgern mit dem HP Support zur Kenntnis gekommen dass das Teil ganz einfach nicht funktioniert. Mein neues HP Pavilion Gaming Notebook kann auch damit nicht geladen werden.

Zuerst ne HP Dockingstation gekauft um EUR 130,00 - dann erfahren dass das USB-C bei dem Notebook gekauft im Dezember 2020 (also neu) kein Videosignal über USB-C übertragen kann. Argumentation man sollte Business Produkte von HP kaufen. Fakt ist dass wenn jemand ein Gaming Notebook kauft, er wahrscheinlich auch 2 Monitore anschließen möchte und nicht auf dem Notebook spielt.

Anschließend die teurer HP Dock mit USB-C und USB-A gekauft - die kann jetzt zumindest die 2 Monitore anzeigen ist aber nicht in der Lage das Notebook mit Strom zu versorgen *LOL*

Dann den HP Support gefragt warum das nicht geht - dieser hat gesagt dass ich diesen Schrott brauche und es damit gehen würde. Geht auch nicht.

Resümee: Asus kaufen dann klappts

Ich habe den Adapter mit einer HP Dock 5 getestet vielleicht sehen die Ergebnisse bei einer G2 anders aus. Vielleicht funktioniert es bei Geräten mit Thunderbolt besser. Der Adapter schleift lediglich Ethernet (LAN), USB und KLINKE durch. Bild und Strom funktioniert bei keinen der getesteten Computer. Elitebook 850 G7 und G6 bei einem HP der Ausführungen so günstig wie möglich (no name HP)der nur über USB 2.0 verfügt gleiche Ergebnisse. Mein Fazit der originale lohnt sich nicht, vielleicht findet man einen Adapter der vielleicht noch Bild überträgt. Ach apropo da die Generation G6 und 7 voll umfänglich mit der Docking 5 mit usb c funktioniert habe ich dese Geräte zum test benutzt.

Laut Beschreibung sollte das Ding einen Rechner über eine Powerbank laden können... das war aber leider Fehlanzeige.
Ich habe eine Powerbank, mit der ich mühelos 2 iPads gleichzeitig laden kann, das heißt, die "Kraft" müßte locker ausreichen...
habs auch mit 2 anderen Powerbanks probiert, ging gar nicht.
Ging daher umgehend wieder zurück... normalerweise nur 1 Punkt, da die Rückabwicklung aber problemlos funktionierte, geb ich einen mehr...
