UGC NET Notification 2024 has been issued for the University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test June 2024. It was issued on 20 April 2024.The UGC National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) stands as an important examination within India's higher education landscape. Administered by the University Grants Commission (UGC), this test is a gateway for those aspiring to pursue research and teaching roles across diverse disciplines.

The UGC-NET is designed to assess the eligibility of Indian citizens for various purposes in Indian universities and colleges. These include qualifying for the Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professorship, eligibility for both Assistant Professorship and admission to Ph.D. programmes, as well as admission to Ph.D. programmes only. Candidates qualifying under the Assistant Professorship and admission to the Ph.D. category are eligible for Assistant Professorship and Ph.D. admission, but not for the Junior Research Fellowship. Candidates qualifying under the admission to Ph.D. only category are eligible solely for Ph.D. admission, without eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship or Assistant Professorship appointment.

UGC-NET 2024 Eligibility Criteria

UGC Net Exam is conducted twice every year by the NTA to select qualified applicants for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship positions in Indian universities and colleges. After passing the examination, candidates can apply for associate professor and junior research fellowship positions at their chosen universities. Although the final selection will be done on the basis of criteria set by the Institute or the University itself. 

Nationality

No citizen from any other country( except India )can apply for this examination. 

Age Limit

Candidates for the JRF Exam should not be older than 30 years (as on June 1, 2024). Candidates applying for the Assistant Professor position have no upper age limit. Relaxation in upper age for the post of JRF is shown in the table below.

Educational Qualifications

Candidates for the General/Unreserved/General-EWS categories must have a Master's degree with a minimum of 55%. Other Backward Classes (OBC) are candidates from Non-Creamy Layer/Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disability (PwD)/Third Gender category who have obtained at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in a Master's degree or equivalent examination.

Note:

Ph.D. degree holders who completed their Master's level examination by September 19, 1991 (regardless of the date of result declaration) are eligible for a 5% redemption in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) when taking the NET.

UGC-NET Application Process 2024

UGC NET June application 2024 can be submitted from 20 April to 10 May 2024. To apply for the UGC NET Application Form 2024, candidates can follow the steps outlined below:

Step 1: Visit the official UGC NET website.

Step 2: Upon accessing the website, a new window will appear. New users should click on the “New Registration” button to begin the registration process. Alternatively, existing users can fill in their details and click on the “SIGN IN” button.

Step 3: Fill in all necessary details including Application Number, Password, and Security PIN, then proceed by clicking the login button.

Step 4: Select your preferred Exam Centre and language medium for UGC NET 2024.

Step 5: Provide your Aadhar card number, gender, category, Employment status, and Qualifying Exam status.

Step 6: Input your Educational Details, including your most recent qualification, percentage, etc.

Step 7: Enter your communication address, phone number, and email ID.

Step 8: Upload your photo and signature, ensuring both images are in jpg/jpeg format with a white background.

Step 9: Proceed to the payment page to complete the payment for the UGC NET 2024 Exam, which can be done via online or offline modes.

Step 10: Click on the “SUBMIT” button and download the confirmation page for future reference.

 

Note: Candidates should also download and install the SANDES application as a secondary channel to receive NTA notifications regularly.

UGC NET Selection Process 2024

The UGC NET is a qualifying exam for candidates applying for Assistant Professor and JRF positions at government universities and institutes. The selection process for the appointment of NET-qualified candidates to these positions will be determined by the respective institution. However, to qualify for the NET exam, candidates must score the marks mentioned below.

Candidates have to appear for the written examination which is divided into two parts, 

  • General category candidates should secure a minimum of 40% in aggregate( in both papers) and other category candidates should secure a minimum of 35% in aggregate to qualify for this exam for the post of Assistant Professor and JE. 
  • Out of all the candidates only 6 % will be qualified for Assistant Professor Post. 

UGC NET Exam Pattern 2024

The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers the UGC NET exam. It is the qualifying exam for the positions of Assistant Professor and/or Junior Research Fellow at various universities and colleges across India. The duration of the examination will be 03 hours (180 minutes) without any break. All the questions are compulsory. 

UGC NET Exam Pattern for Paper I

The written exam will be administered OMR-based only. The exam paper will be available in only English and Hindi languages. During the UGC NET Application form-filling process, NTA allows candidates to select a medium from the options provided. 

  • Each correct answer will be of 2 marks. There will be no negative marking.
  • Paper 1 is going to check candidates in these areas : Teaching and research aptitude.
  • And these areas will consist of comprehension, reasoning ability, divergent thinking and general awareness.

UGC NET Exam Pattern for Paper II

The UGC NET Paper 2 exam will be determined by the subject chosen from among the 82 available subjects when registering for the UGC NET exam. Also, candidates can only appear in their post-graduate subject for Paper 2 of the UGC NET exam. If their post-graduation subject is not on the list of 82, they may select a comparable subject.

However, regardless of the subject chosen by the candidate, the exam pattern will be consistent. Candidates must be well-read and knowledgeable about their subjects, as this will be the primary test of their understanding. The paper will be objective in nature having MCQ-type questions. 

  • Paper II will be based on the candidate's chosen subject (political science, philosophy, history, commerce, music, etc.).
  • Each correct answer will fetch 2 marks. There will be no negative marking.

Medium of Question Paper 

  • Except for language papers, all question papers will be in English or Hindi. 
  • The Candidate should carefully choose the medium of the Question Paper when filling out the Application Form online because the option, once selected, cannot be changed during examination. 
  • Candidates must respond in the medium specified in the application form. 
  • If there is any ambiguity in the translation/construction of a question in the exam, the English version will be considered final, and the NTA's decision will be final in this regard.

Marking Scheme

  • In both papers, each question is worth two marks. For each correct response, the candidate will receive 02 (two) marks.
  • Questions that are not answered, attempted, or marked for review will not be graded.
  • If any incorrect or ambiguous question or answer with multiple marks is  found, then candidates who attempted the question and opted for only one correct answer will be awarded credit.
  • If any incorrect or dropped question is found, those candidates who attempted the question will be awarded 2 marks. The reason behind this could be human error or any other technical error.

Validity of UGC NET Score

Candidates who obtain a valid UGC NET score that exceeds the cutoff or qualifying marks will be issued a UGC NET certificate. According to the new NTA and UGC norms, the UGC NET score for the Junior Research Fellowship is valid for three years from the date of certificate issuance. In contrast, for the Assistant Professorship, the score is valid indefinitely. As a result, in the case of Assistant Professorship, the candidate's UGC NET scores will be valid for life, whereas JRF scores are only valid for three years.

UGC NET Exam City Intimation 2024

UGC will issue an advanced city intimation slip before the release of the admit card. Candidates can check the date and venue of their examination. Candidates can check the exam city assigned to them for the exam by following the steps outlined below:

  • Visit the official UGC NET website.
  • Click on the 'Advance City Intimation for UGC' link that appears on the screen.
  • To access it, enter your application number, date of birth, and security pin.
  • Check your exam city.
  • Take a printout for future reference.

UGC NET Admit Card 2024

The admit card for both sessions will be made available one week before the exam on the UGC-NET official website. To obtain your UGC NET Admit Card 2024 from the official website, you will need your application number and password. Candidates can follow the steps listed below to download the UGC NET 2024 Admit Card:

  1. Open your internet browser and navigate to the UGC NET official website.
  2. Look for the 'UGC NET 2024 admit card' link in the "Recent Updates" section and click on it.
  3. You will be directed to a login page, where you must enter your Application Number and Password in the fields provided on the screen.
  4. Once you've entered your Application Number and Password on the login page, enter the security pin when prompted and click the "Sign In" button. 
  5. Your UGC NET Admit Card 2024 will then appear on the screen. Verify the accuracy of the information on the admit card. Once confirmed, you can proceed to download the admit card. 
  6. It is advisable to take a printout of your UGC NET admit card. 

UGC NET Answer Key 2024

The UGC NET Exam answer keys will be available on the NTA UGC NET official website. Candidates who take the UGC NET exam can view and download the answer keys by visiting the official website. Candidates can download the UGC NET Answer Key from the official website of UGC NET by following the steps outlined below.

Step 1: Go to the official website of UGC NET and look for the "UGC NET Answer Key Released" notice.

Step 2: Click. On the notice. You will be redirected to the UGC NET answer keys page.

Step 3: Enter the required credentials (application number, date of birth/password, and security pin).

Step 4: Candidates should click on the submit button.

Step 5: The answer key, question paper, and response sheet will be displayed on the screen.

Step 6: Candidates may download the answer key for future reference.

Challenging Provisional Answer Key

The NTA will make the Provisional Answer Key(s) and Question Paper attempted by the candidate available on its website. The Provisional Answer Key(s) will most likely be displayed for two to three days, and candidates will have the opportunity to raise any objections they may have. However, they will be required to pay an online processing fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only) Non-Refundable for each challenged answer.

UGC NET Result 2024

The announcement of the results is the most anticipated stage of any examination. The UGC NET Result will be available on the NTA's website shortly after the exam is completed. The following steps will be followed by the UGC to shortlisted eligible candidates for JRA and Assistant Professor posts and to release the UGC-NTA Result.

  • Only 6% of the candidates will pass the Assistant Professor Exam.
  • To get considered for both exams JRF and Assistant Professorship, Candidates should have cleared both exams and should have received an aggregate of minimum 40% for UR and  35% for reserved categories.
  • Candidates who qualify in any subject are calculated by adding the percentages of two papers, corresponding to the available slots.
  • JRF includes all candidates who applied for both “JRF and Assistant Professor” out of total number of qualified candidates.
  • Slots available for JRF are divided among different categories. The procedure for allocation is explained below:
    • Total Percentile = Number of candidates who appeared in the ‘Session’ with raw score EQUAL TO OR LESS than the candidate divided by the Total Number of candidates who appeared in the ‘session’.

Download UGC NET Result Online

Candidates can access their UGC NET results through the official UGC NET website. Candidates can also use the steps below to check and save their results.

Step 1: To check your results, go to the UGC NET official website.

Step 2: At the bottom of the home page, there is a link to the NTA UGC NET results.

Step 3: Click on the provided link. The screen will then refresh to a new page.

Step 4: Enter your UGC NET registration number, password, and birth date.

Step 5: The UGC NET score will be displayed on the screen.

UGC NET Cut-off Marks 2024

The conducting authority will release the UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) cut-off marks along with the results. To check the UGC NET cut-off marks on its official website, follow the steps below: 

Step 1: Go to the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) or the UGC NET governing authority. 

Step 2: Find the "UGC NET JUNE/DECEMBER 20224 SUBJECT/CATEGORY WISE CUTOFF MARKS" and "UGC NET JUNE/DECEMBER 2024 SUBJECT/CATEGORY WISE CUTOFF PERCENTILE" homepages and click on them.

Step 3: You will be redirected to a new page where you can download the PDFs. The UGC NET cut-off marks will be displayed on the screen.

Step 4: Check the subject and category-specific cut-off marks and compare them to your score to see if you qualify for the exam.
