EMC is announcing the VNXe1600™ block storage array, purpose-built for the
price sensitive entry level SAN market. The aggressively priced VNXe1600 block
storage array leverages the VNXe “ease of use and install” heritage to provide
storage efficiency, simplicity, and reliability for SMB, ROBO, enterprise workgroup
and departmental application storage requirements. The small 2U footprint makes
it an ideal solution for these types of business environments.

When is the VNXe1600 orderable & available?
Answer:
It is fully orderable and generally available to EMC Channel Partners in Channel
Express (CXP) on August 10, 2015 and resides within the “EMC VNX Family”
store.
Question: What are the common use cases for the VNXe1600?
Answer:
The VNXe1600 is designed to be a customer installable/low touch, easy-to-use
and deploy system for small-scale mixed application and database workloads,
Exchange, and virtual server deployments for both VMware and Microsoft
environments. Additionally, the VNXe1600, with iSCSI OffLoad, presents an ideal
performance opportunity for 10Gb scenarios - delivering near 8Gb FC
performance.

What software and data services are standard with the VNXe1600?
Answer:
The VNXe1600 will include the following: FAST Cache, Thin Provisioning, native
Block Snapshots and Asynchronous Block Replication, Management & Reporting
(in Q4), Unisphere, and Unisphere Central - all of which will use standard ELMS
process for activation. VNXe1600 will come standard with Basic 3 Year Hardware
Warranty and 90 days Software Warranty. Enhanced and Premium options are
available.

What optional software is available for the VNXe1600?
Answer:
Currently, only PowerPath.
Question: What IO options are offered with the VNXe1600?
Answer:
The VNXe1600 includes an embedded Converged Network Adaptor (CNA) with 2
ports per Storage Processor and support 8Gb FC, 16Gb FC, or either a 10 Gb
iSCSI (optical), or 10Gb TwinAx (2, 4, and 6 meter cables top of rack) ports. With
each of these, you must use 2 of the same Small Form Pluggable (SFP).
These are the supported Small Form Factor Pluggable Trancevers (SFPs): There
are 4 total CAN ports (2 per SP). All 4 need to be configured the same way. For
example, all 4 would need to be 8Gb FC or all 4 would be empty. You cannot
configure only 2.

Does the VNXe1600 support virtualized environments?
Answer:
Yes. The VNXe1600 will continue to support all the same virtualization integrations
as the VNXe3200 including support for VSI 6.6 and ESI 3.8 (in Q4).

Is there / will there be an upgrade path to a VNXe3200?
Answer:
No.
Question:
What technical information is available with the VNXe1600?
Answer:
A CSE paper titled “VNXe1600 Overview” is available that provides information
about the product and points to existing VNXe3200 white papers where
technology/features are the same. Also on this site, are new VNXe1600 videos
available including: 1) Connection Utility, 2) Initial Configuration Wizard, 3) Pool
based Provisioning, 4) VNXe1600 Unisphere Demo, and 5) Storage Provisioning
for Block - iSCSI.

Where is the VNXe1600 collateral located?
Answer:
All collateral will be located on the Enablement Center for VNX Family and the
