Windows Server 2008 R2 is end of sale since end of 2014. Windows Server 2008 R2 is in Microsoft Extended Support Phase now. Certification closed on August 31, 2015. Last system certified was PRIMERGY RX4770 M2. No other systems of the M2 generation can be certified. This is per Microsoft's policy. That means: Current server systems cannot be certified for Windows Server 2008 R2, and are not supported. However, Windows Server 2008 R2 as a guest operating system in a supported hypervisor is supported.

End users who request Windows Server 2008 R2 (OEM) from Fujitsu should purchase Windows Server 2012 R2 (OEM) plus the Fujitsu Downgrade/Down-edition DG/DE Kit Windows Server 2008 R2. Windows Server 2008 CAL are End of Sale. Fujitsu Windows Server 2012 OEM licenses are available for purchase from Fujitsu or your local authorized Fujitsu reseller. Available OEM licenses: Datacenter, Standard, Foundation, Essentials, Storage Server Standard. OEM licenses include DVD media, and a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker attached to the server system or blade and contains the product key. The COA is your proof of license for the operating system. Through the End User License Terms, end users have down-grade and down-edition rights. Certified and Supported: The PRIMERGY server systems have met the Microsoft Certified/Logo program requirements for Windows Server 2012. Fujitsu will provide technical support for PRIMERGY server drivers and ServerView management software that are compatible with the operating system. From Fujitsu: Available for purchase at the time of your PRIMERGY server purchase as non-preinstalled, drop in the box with the operating system DVDs included with the server. Client Access Licenses (CAL) are required, available for purchase in addition at any time, with or without the server system. Windows Server 2016 is in Technical Preview today, and will become commercially availablein September/October 2016. - End Customers can optionally add Microsoft Software Assurance to their new acquired Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and Datacenter OEM, ROK licenses. With SA, Microsoft provides Windows Server 2016 at no extra charge. Windows Server 2016 licenses servers based on cores, rather than processors, uses technical features to differentiate between Datacenter and Standard editions, and introduce a new Software Assurance benefit related to Azure. Servers Licensed by Core Windows Server requires purchase of both client-side and server-side licenses. Client-side licenses -called Client Access Licenses (CAL)- provide the right for users or end user devices to access servers, and server-side licenses provide the right to run the software on a physical server. With Windows Server 2016, nothing changes with respect to client-side licensing (such as CAL requirements, and types), but server-side licensing changes dramatically, moving from a processor- to a core-based licensing model. New Rule With Windows Server 2016, servers require core licenses that are sold in two-packs, which each 2-pack costing 1/8th of the price of the current 2012 R2 edition server license. The number of core-licenses is the greatest of: - Eight core licenses per processor - Sixteen cores per server Multilingual means: … integrated languages.
