How it Happened

First half – Nicole Scales kicked off the action with a three-pointer, but the Bucs answered with a layup of their own. The Sharks then went on a 10-0 run capped off by a Jess Moors layup, extending the Sharks lead to 13-2 as they reached the midway point of the quarter. Zeyno Seren would put the finishing touches on the quarter for the Sharks with a layup, as they headed to the second quarter with a 16-7 lead. NSU picked up the defensive intensity this quarter, holding Barry scoreless for eight minutes en route to a 13-0 run and a 29-9 lead with two minutes remaining in the half. The Sharks kept their foot on the gas and headed into the half with a 20-point lead.

Second half – A jumper and layup from Scales and Stupp put the first four points for the Sharks on the board to start the half. Midway through the quarter, NSU continued their defensive onslaught, as Madison Frederick's active hands led to a steal and a layup for Delaney Wolfe on the other end, giving the Sharks a 24-point lead, their biggest lead of the game. The Bucs continued to fight, cutting the Sharks lead to 16 as they headed to the final frame. Both teams traded baskets in the fourth quarter, but the Sharks ultimately secured the 64-51 SSC victory over the Barry Bucs.

Coach's Corner

Head Coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry: In the first half our team played incredible team defense and executed the game plan well. It was one of the best 20 minutes of defense our program has played in years. When we lock in, it's an impressive display. Our staff is excited to watch this team fully commit to our system on both ends. We are making strides.
