Bottom Line

BenQ's EX2710R is a perfect monitor if visuals are what you're after. It's 1ms response time for a panel of this type is pretty remarkable that makes it ideal for both gamers and content creators

BenQ’s Mobiuz series of monitors work differently than their Zowie ones with the simple distinction that it works for all round gaming. But in 2021, the Mobiuz brand has cemented itself to be a higher end variant in BenQ’s roster. I often find that 2K 144hz has been the sweet spot when it comes to gaming. So naturally the EX2710R’s 165hz 1ms response time makes this a compelling monitor to get.

And I have to say, if you’re looking for a 2K monitor, this may be one of the best in the class.

Design

This is a 27-inch VA display, so contrast ratios are better than IPS, however as we all know the trade-off is limited viewing angles and response time. Well, BenQ have done something special with the engineering in this display and it’s a fast 1ms MPRT /165Hz panel. It comes with AMD’s Freesync Premium Pro and 3000:1 HDR400.

This is solid build with a curved monitor while I don’t care much for, but the curvature is a real kick for those who like these kinds of panels. The IPS variant of this is flat so there’s options here if you need it.

There’s also 2.1 Trevolo speakers and there’s the RGB backlighting on this curved panel, so it gives a bit of flair.

As for connections, there are 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, 1 DisplayPort 1.4, a USB Type B Up and two USB 3.0 Downstream. I will appreciate the fact, there’s a plastic cover to neatly put your cables and hide it later.

Performance

This is a HDRi monitor so naturally BenQ’s engineering means you get decent HDR and it’s quite easy to enable it, there’s even a button in the front to activate it. Other than that, it’s 165hz and AMD Freesync. There’s a variety of customization levels in the way you can boost shadows which works in competitive gaming but also if you really want a rich variety of cinematic colours for open world games.

Everything looked sharped and crisp and results on a variety of games was solid. That’s because of the 1ms response time and with a matte display, the glare is reduced considerably too.

For those who play a lot of competitive titles but also want to get a range of games like RPGs or platformers, this display really brings out the fidelity in the visuals. Ideally, you’d want to have a GTX 1070+ GPU or more to truly get the most frames from the games, I say GTX considering how hard it is to get a RTX GPU in 2021 and that’s the reality we’re stuck with.

If you’re gaming for longer sessions, BenQ’s proprietary EyeCare tech is also baked in so you can change the blue light levels. What surprised me the most is how good those Trevolo speakers are, they sound quite nice, though I suspect many will use their own audio systems or headphones but it’s a nice touch.

Being a true HDR 4000 display, it’s 400 nits of brightness, it’s remarkable that the viewing angles really help with the curved display. This isn’t just a gaming monitor, it works with media consumption, this is a perfect duo I look for in a display of this class and this monitor to me makes for a compelling buy.

Verdict

The BenQ EX2710R is a beautiful panel. It will cost you AED 2,684 which is on the higher end for displays and rightly so with a fast response time on a VA panel and it’s an even better buy if you don’t just game. If you’re a content creator who edits videos, photographs and you want a display that fits the bill but also something you can enjoy your gaming content on. This is a sure-fire pick.
