FLORENCE, Ore. - A Bandon man suffered serious injuries in a head-on crash on Highway 101 near Heceta Head on Tuesday, Oregon State Police said.

"It was determined on scene that the serious patient must be flown to Sacred Heart Riverbend in Springfield due to his serious trauma injuries," Sean Barrett from Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue said in a statement.

Two other people involved in the crash - Frankie Murry, 68, and Amy Ballard Rich, 60 - were taken by ambulance to Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence for treatment of minor injuries, state police said.

Details about which vehicles were occupied by which people were not immediately available from investigators. This story will be updated as information becomes available.

State police said a commercial truck collided with a RV trailer being towed behind a truck. A third vehicle was also involved.

"The crash scene was about 200 yards long due to the total destruction of the travel trailer. It took several hours to clear the roadway due to the amount of debris," Barrett said. "Traffic in both directions was backed up to 4 miles at times."
