HORSE WELFARE AT CATTERICK

At all Catterick race meetings we has a minimum of two fully qualified equine vets who are employed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. They work closely with a British Horseracing Authority Veterinary Officer who is also always in attendance. In the unfortunate event of an accident or a horse becoming hurt or injured, the racecourse vets are on hand to act swiftly and treat a horse without delay. It is now standard procedure that all racecourses have modern, fully equipped horse ambulances so that horses can be moved and treated in more comfort. If a horse is injured out on the course, the vets and their assistants will erect screens enabling them to work in private - the use of screens will not automatically mean the horse has been seriously injured. Serious injuries at Catterick Racecourse are thankfully very rare, but we regard any injury, however slight it may be, an absolute priority and we would like to assure all racegoers that we have the right people, the right equipment and right procedures to deal with them efficiently

FIRST AID

Will all racegoers please note the location of the first aid post which is at the entrance to the Disabled car Park.

RACE CONDITIONS

For today’s race conditions, please see page 31.

SHUTTLE BUS

Catterick are pleased to announce that they are now providing a shuttle bus service between the racecourse and Richmond town centre. Today the shuttle bus will leave the main entrance approximately 10 minutes after the last race. For further details please contact the Racecourse Office.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not without hope.

HIIII Given little or no chance.

- = denotes new year

C = Course Winner

D = Distance Winner

CD = Course & Distance Winner

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

BF = Beaten Favourite

d = disqualified

Bold form figures = All-Weather form

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Look out for the charity Racing to School today; you shouldn’t miss them as they will be leading a group of local pupils and their teachers through every corner of the racecourse for an action-packed day of fun challenges and discovery. The charity works nationwide with over 250 schools, and this year will reach around 16,000 young people – at UK racecourses, trainers’yards and studs.

They deliver free, outdoor activity days to support the learning and to boost the self-confidence of children aged nine and above. Racing to School uses racing venues as unique, fast-moving classrooms full of opportunities to practise and improve subjects like maths, literacy and problem-solving.

The charity is only able to support young people’s education through the kind donations it receives. Please scan this QR code to donate, if you can.

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): R Carr (3 wins from 22 runners, 14%) runs SPANISH ANGEL

RACE FACTS

Leading course trainer (17-22): T Easterby (40 wins from 393 runners, 10%) runs WHISKY MCGONAGALL

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): W Haggas (5 wins from 24 runners, 21%) runs HIGH OVATION

Longest Traveller: EROSION RISK trained by D Evans, Abergavenny, 236 miles.

TODAY’S TIP

The percentage call is to side with HIGH OVATION, who was very well supported when second at Kempton on his second start and benefits from a longer break between outings this time. Changeofmind perhaps retains the most potential having won a Chester maiden cosily on his sole outing last summer and is feared, whilst Erosion Risk is a largely consistent sort and should be able to bounce back to form.

TODAY’S TIP

DOCTOR MOZART and Sera Dawn appeal as clear stand-outs in this company, with narrow preference for the former, who shouldn’t be overfaced by this mark returning to handicap company for his hat-trick bid. Sera Dawn progressed when winning at Nottingham last time and looks to have been allocated a fair opening mark. Premier Option appeals as best of the rest.

RACE FACTS

Leading course trainer (17-22): M Dods (15 wins from 98 runners, 15%) runs CAPOFAN

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): R Carr (3 wins from 22 runners, 14%) runs DRESDEN GREEN

Longest Traveller: CENTERSTAGE trained by E Dunlop, Newmarket, 205 miles.

TODAY’S TIP

CAPOFAN wasn’t able to get involved after a slow start on her latest outing, but she’d finished in the frame on her first 2 starts of the year and, with cheekpieces now applied, she could be ready to get off the mark this time around. Smile And Pay had also run well in his first 2 races this season and is feared most, ahead of Mr Jetman.
