It seems only yesterday that the market was awash with property for sale - while those buyers who could find a mortgage had all the time in the world to make a buying decision. Now all that has changed. The volume of stock in many parts of the UK has depleted greatly and many more not so loan-strapped buyers are in a hurry to buy. The speed of this reversal has caught many by surprise and fuelled speculation – especially in the press - about a housing bubble. It is London that gets the most coverage and it is the capital that unfortunately taints the view of market watchers. The reality is less sensational. Away from London and its environs the market is more stable. Yes, prices in many areas are rising, but in most there is some way to go before reaching pre-2007 levels. So the latest issue of Collection comes at a key period in the property cycle. As these pages show there is no lack of interesting and attractive property for sale. Relieving poverty among street children in Mombasa Glad’s House is a British charity working on the ground in Mombasa, Kenya, to improve the lives of the city’s street children. The current temporary Glad’s House ‘base’, provides a day centre, feeding programme and a ‘safe haven’ for up to 75 children at a time. It also believes sport is a great way to improve lives. Partnering with MOYO (Mombasa Olympic Youth Organisation) the charity provides sports kit and funding for boxing, football, basketball, volleyball and rugby teams. This helps provide the motivation to stay away from drugs and crime whilst enjoying a
